Stats Malfunction?

    Hello WordPress and Community Members,

    I was wondering if there was a malfunction occurring with stats yesterday, December 11, 2020. It shows that I didn’t have any views BUT somehow, the stats showed that visitors were downloading files I have placed on my about section. This seems odd.

    Did anyone else experience this?

    Hi there,

    Someone doesn’t have to visit your site to download files you have added to a post or page.

    If your site is public, all files in the media library are also public, and they get indexed by search engines just like posts and pages. So it’s possible for someone to get a link to a specific file via a Google search result and download it directly from there.

    Likewise if someone who has visited your site then shares a link to the specific file with someone else, rather than a link to the page, that person will also be able to directly access the file without visiting your site and generating a View stat.
