Stats messed up

I know the mods recently closed a thread relating to this but now I’m re-opening the topic. Seems my stats were OK during the time everyone else had problems, but today my graph shows 17 hits while my stat counter only shows like, 2.

I’m going to throw a Site Meter on the landing page for better tracking because the built-in counter counts my visits when I’m logged off and doesn’t seem to set a session-long cookie, but to count each unique page view as a unique visit, which is annoying the crap out of me.

You can get an invisible statcounter from the company of the same name or a sitemeter for free or both.

The stat counter widget is always behind as it’s cached. The graph on your blog stats page is live.

If I put the built-in stat counter back in my sidebar will it display all the stats from when I started my blog? Or will it start counting all over again from 0? I hate the SiteMeter. It shows 2 unique visits for “this week” yet my stats by “details” clearly show a lot more visitors than that. Its just weird.

The one that came with WordPress? Yes.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I’m going to try it now…

There’s nothing to it. You drag and drop it into the sidebar and click on “save changes”.

I had 906 hits recorded by the built-in stat counter (with 17 apparently waiting to be added) when I switched to SiteMeter. From there SiteMeter only recorded 2 more unique visits until about an hour ago, then all of a sudden it updated with:

    Total[visits] 23
    Average Per Day 11
    Average Visit Length 4:34
    Last Hour 0
    Today 1
    This Week 22

906 + that missing 17=923+22=945 recorded by SiteMeter, as opposed to the 944 recorded by the built-in stats…good enough. It IS working right!

    Thanks again for the help.

hi, i’m sorry for troubling but i’m a new member on wordpress and i would like to know, how do u add a stats counter on your sidebar pls? i know ntus abt html and all that, so is there an easy way for me to understand and know?

WordPress already comes with a stat counter. It’s a widget on your Presentation that you can drag into your sidebar. Or you can get Site Meter and that will show unique visitors and page views. But it doesn’t show referrals though. There’s alot more on this faq on the pink sticky thread on the top of the forum:

My Stats have been on 17 hits since I started a long time ago.

17 hits for today? All time? Thisiis the first time you’ve mentioned it.

This is recorded in his or her blog on July 9th but has not been, as far as I can tell, “reported”.
