Stats Not Updating
-
For two days now, the stats on http://stonecreekphotos.wordpress.com/ are not updating properly. I’ve conducted all the initial tasks, secure log in, empty cache, etc., but there is either not updates or the views are not accurate. Just prior to noticing that there was a problem I changed themes. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim J

Hi Tim,
After looking into your stats today, I found that it was being updated. Monday you had 119 views which was one of the highest view counts you’ve had, and yesterday you had 48. If you could let me know exactly which stats aren’t updating, I can look into it for you.
You can find more information about stats here.
Cheers!

Good morning Grace,
Thank you for your response.
“are not updating properly”…
Yes, the Stats page does indicate traffic but the figures seem to be inaccurate. I have embedded other analytical programs, StatCounter and Revolvermaps, both which have proven to be as close to being accurate as I can determine. Comparing the view count for both days mentioned, StatCounter shows for Monday, 4 visitors/6 views, Tuesday, 2 visitors/4 views.
Based on the number of individuals following this blog, the WordPress figures just don’t add up properly at all. Either that or my old age is catching up to me and I’m not seeing the whole picture.
Again Grace, thanks for your help.
Tim

A follow-up to my earlier comment:
As of right now, the WordPress stats indicate 1/1 yet my other statistical programs show 4/7.
As I asked previously, could it be related to the new theme I activated on Monday? Prior to that, it seemed all stat input was normal and accurate.

Hi Tim,
Please note that you can only use HTML stat counters on WordPress.com (not the Javascript one) which will always be less accurate as you don’t have access to all of the information. We don’t allow this for security reasons. Also, generally the numbers will be less than the WordPress.com stats because they will not include things like referrers, which is included in WordPress.com stats.
Also please note that all stat counters measure different things, so unless it’s purely a coincidence, they will not show the same numbers. It’s best to use these counters as a general guide to which posts are generally getting more hits than other posts.
I don’t see your stats changing because of a change in theme unless readers are more/less attracted to the look of your site, which is difficult to see right away. It’s best to look at trends rather than actual numbers with these stats. See which posts are getting higher hits and which posts are getting less so that can give you a good idea of what your readers want.
I’m sorry for the vague answers, but considering the nature of stats and the unreliability of using HTML stat counters, I can’t really pinpoint an exact reason for why this is happening.

Good morning Grace,
Thank you again for your time and help. You have cleared up a few things for me to which I’m grateful.
Happy Holidays to you and yours,
Tim
