stats oddity?
-
I post to the blog listed as the one I need help with every Friday, and that’s the day I also look at the stats. This week however, I know that each category page got a view, but those views don’t appear to be recorded in my stats. I also don’t see any difference between the home page and an older posts link. For example, notice that I have the site I say I need help with to display the 10 most recent blog posts, rather than a static front page as is the case with my other site. However, when older posts is clicked from the bottom of the home page, this doesn’t seem to count as a new view. If it does, it’s sure not very clear because the stat counter seems to lump all of it into one page. Also, like I said above, the category archive pages don’t seem to appear in my stats.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi bobdavcav,
The site bobsairchecks.x10host.com has very little traffic, so it’s really hard to tell if there are any issues with the stats, but everything looks okay to me. However, since it’s self-hosted, I can’t really “look under the hood” to see if there’s anything else going on with it.

Ok, I have a little more information that you can hopefully use to improve wordpress.com stats or help me sort this out. A couple weeks ago when I posted that thread, I mentioned that I had viewed each category’s archive pages, so they were still in my history, therefore iliminating any possible viewing confusion on my part. I selected Long Island from my history, then proceeded to go to the home page and then click the older posts link. The thing is, this is all shown under the home page archives views in stats rather than being broken into individual pages. When testing today, the home page archives jumped from 5 to 9 when I looked at my stats after doing the above mentioned actions. What I’d like to see happen is those pages broken down. In the example above, I don’t know what you viewed, but let’s say you viewed just the home page and there were a few other visitors today that also viewed the home page. If that were the case, I should see in my stats that the home page was viewed 6 times, the post archives page 2 was viewed once, and the category archive for Long Island was viewed once.

Keep in mind that stats are not updated in real time, and depending on how you have things set up, may not be counting logged in visitor visits.

I wasn’t aware that I could change it to count logged in visitors, but I did log out for the test I did earlier.

Nope, no change. It seems as if all archive views are lumped in under home page archives.
