Stats Plugin needs to be linked to a WordPress.com account

  Hello,

  I cannot activate the WordPress Stats plugin on my blog because it comes up with this message: “The WordPress.com Stats Plugin is not working because it needs to be linked to a WordPress.com account.”

  I signed up for an account, got the API key, entered it, but I still get the same message.

  Can anyone help?

  Andy, the plugin author put this in the wordpress.org forums not long ago:

  That message means that you used somebody else's API key to activate the plugin.
  
  Who owns the API key you used when you first activated the plugin? Get that person to add you to the access list. The form for that is on the stats reports page.

  While there was no solution given, I would even go to the plugin page under http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/stats/
