Stats Plugin Stopped Working: API Problem
-
This appears to be day 6 and I would have installed another stats program on day one. have you considered doing that? As I said above > It’s always a good idea to have two metrics systems running on one’s blog and this situation certainly demonstrates why.
-
Yes, it’s already been 6 days since the WordPress.com Stats Plugin has been down due to the API keys issue.
You can always use other alternate stats plugins for the time being till things get fixed ;)

I needed 3 moths to convince a blog to install wp stats, finally had the stats I was used to and liked instead of damned Google Analytics everyone is using that causes confusion with other goggle stuff like Youtube and they always want you to be logged in everywhwere.
After 3 days it was messed up.
So installing someting else is NOT the idea. I would have to wait 3 months again.
However, wp stats came pack on one of my self hosted blogs, but not on the other one. But I noticed it tried to come up with my wp.com login there. So it seems wp stats messes up the different logins.
Wonder why this is marked as “resolved”, it’s not.

Timethief, why are you trying to get others to use “another” stats prog? Do you know something we don’t. Does your stats work? are you useing JetPack on your sites?
WordPress.com Stats have always been #1 to me and I would love to be able to use the best not some second rate junk like Goog-anyl. I do use it too but it does not give the info as easily as this plugin does. We just want Automatic to live up to what we have come to expect from them …awesome WORKING products. Tell us to use something else is like telling us to just “give up”. I wil compain but will also keep using it when it is fixed and I hope it is soon. I also think there should be a single place for info on this prob and more openess about it. If they are not going to fix and give up they should let us know and we will stop “bugging” them/you about it. -

I know you are frustrated but I don’t appreciate your interpretation. I’ve simply suggested that those who are waiting for Staff to fix this problem which appears to be affecting many blogs might consider installing a secondary stats program. I also shared my opinion which is that it’s always a good idea to have two metrics systems running on one’s blog and this situation certainly demonstrates why.

I guess what I was trying to say is that people are coming here to find solutions notways to get around the issue. Like manypeople I have always used two or more stats but the wp.com one is the best for my wp.org sites. I only am passing on the anger my clients are giving me. They expect answers from me and I am more angry at wp for not giving some more feedback on the prob so I can pass it down the line. I hate not having the answers when it comes to my clients sites.
I will always be a big fan of WordPress and mean not to come down on them because they are free and the best. I just wish to stop getting calls from people about this issue. I am also sorry if i sound a bit snappy and hope you don’t take it the wrong way, again sry… ;-) -
My stats are in theory back up (www.outsports.com/jocktalkblog) but they are all screwed up. Our page views, according to the stats, have dropped 90% in the three days since they started working, which is impossible (and contradicted by our internal logs). In addition, the Top Posts are all from blog entries as much as three years old (nothing current). And the Popular Posts plugin is not working, which is bad since we get a lot of traffic from people clicking on those posts.
Is there anything I should do or simply assume this is a system-wide issue that is being worked on and wait? BTW, I did install Jetpack, so that was no cure.
Thanks for any advice!

Not to worry. I took no offense. I truly wish you guys all of the best. Of course you are frustrated. Volunteers cannot help. :( And I assume that Staff must be working do hard to correct the issues that they don’t have time to post to this thread and say words to the effect of: “We’re so sorry this has happened to you folks and we’re working to correct it.”

I’m simply hunting a replacement.
We have used these stats since 2009 (if not before) and have had 2 self-hosted blogs running on them.
No problems, not a hitch, until this weekend. Then suddenly I was not even connected to my own account!
We are using 2.8.6 with no plans to change as we like our across board theme and have various tweaks and hacks installed. It’s deprecated beyond repair in later versions. We’ve tried…
My only beef is that I have submitted 2 support tickets with no response at all. Not even an acknowledgment that this is an across the board issue.
I realize that we are considering a free service here but I was rather put off by reading the simple closing of similar threads with a cursory message that in effect said “others are having the same problem, quit cluttering the board” with no other explanation.
Just seemed a bit curse. And uncaring.
That may be a LARGE part of the problem. The lack of information or personal involvement.
Just my thoughts…

And by the way I have 4 or more stats programs installed on both blogs, as nothing shows everything!
But it IS a popular plugin simply because it shows right in the Dash and reflects REAL visitor counts, as well as Top Posts and Searches.
Nobody should depend on ONE tracker, but we do love this particular one!
-
Staff typically don’t respond to every support ticket filed. That’s just their style.
The suggestions are:
1) before you do anything else, install another stats program (i recommend Sitemeter).
2) install Jetpack
3) if that doesn’t clear it up, deactivate Jetpack and reactivate and reconfigure it.If that doesn’t work, notify staff again.
-
Thank you for the advice on Sitemeter! We’ll check it out now!
We have tried Jetpack, but as we are running 2.8.6 with no plans to change due to a tweaked theme that’s broken in later versions we’re a little out of options.
Stats are available as we have various other programs but nothing that shows right in the Dash, which admittedly is a convenience.
-
You may be hooped if you can’t upgrade. Typically, it’s more that you run security risks if you don’t upgrade. The plugin is the least of your concerns.
-
I would see about fixing the theme as soon as you can and updating to the latest version of wordpress since 2.8.6 has security holes.
-
WP stats stopped working on my 2.8.6 wordpress.org-install, was broken for a couple of days, but works again (without me doing anything). So upgrading wordpress is not needed to fix the wp stats.
-
We’ll definitely have to think about an upgrade, no doubt…
Did you submit a support ticket, or just wait it out?

It seems like they are working on the JetPack plugin and not too concerned about the wp.com stats one for now. They seem also to think jp solves all, and installoing it does not help me. I am luck in a way bc all my sites work but 1 less viewed one.Tho they work they are out of sync with the graph and at bottom of stats page for day totals. They did respond to my email to support and asked a few questions, i answered them but nothing since. I hope they fix I like this stats plugin too.
-
My stats are still in and out. Is this supposed to be fixed now or are they still working on it?
-
I get the same error message on my blog and WordPress.com. I tried to contact wordpress support but did not yet receive an update.
Anyone has info if and when this issue will be resolved or if there are any manual steps to fix the problem?
