stats question
-
Okay, I’m confused. On the one hand, my chart tells me I had 30 visitors on my blog today. On the other hand, it lists the pages viewed, and that only comes out to about 10….so, which is right??? Why does it say I had 30 visits, but shows only about ten post/pages that were viewed? That’s really, really confusing to me, and totally illogical…so if they didn’t read any pages or posts, where DID those extra 20 people go???
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When people visit your blog they show up as a “hit” under “Views today”. “Page/post views” are mostly from people finding your site through a search engine, or clicking through to a post after finding your site. So when they click on the headline of one of your posts then your stats page will register a “post/page viewed”. So you’ve got thirty people visiting your blog, but only ten of them are clicking on specific links.

If someone goes to the main page of your blog from either a bookmark or by typing it into their browser tool bar, it will show up as a “hit” but it will not show up in the list of pages viewed. I suspect that those 20 people went to the main page of your blog, but did not click on any other page or post links on the main page.

The blog linked to your username is not a wordpress.COM blog. Please provide a link to your wordpress.com blog.

thesacredpath, I suspect you may be referring to a wordpress blog I recently deleted. The blog I am referring to is http://www.davidtennantsdoctor which is very much a wordpress blog, why it’s not linked to my username, is beyond my ken.
I find the whole wordpress stats thing way, way too complicated and confusing for a non-techy person like me. Espeically when stats do actually show a hit on both my home page (post), and pages. (I only have one post, and that’s what I use as my “homepage.” The rest of the entries are all pages.)
Can I use an outside stat counter on my blog? And if so, how to I put one on there?

The link you provided does not have a .com or .org or .net extension, and when I add that, I get a qwest error page.
http://www.davidtennantsdoctor.com – does not exist
http://www.davidtennantsdoctor.net – does not exist
http://www.davidtennantsdoctor.org – does not exist -
The thing is, that even with an outside stat program you will see the same issues because virtually all stat programs work in the same way, and that is what I explained above. You will never be able to add the post/page views for a day up and have them equal the total views for a day.
My assumption is that you are NOT hosted here at wordpress.COM, but self-hosted using the blog stats plugin, is that correct?
If so, you can use any stat counter you want, but what you are going to find is that they provide SO much information in so many different ways that it becomes almost like information overload. You will begin to think that wordpress.COM stats are very simple and straight forward by comparison.
If your blog is here at wordpress.com, you can use an outside stat counter, but you have to make sure and use the HTML only version which will severely limit the information you will get.
