Stats show click on a Pinterest link that isn't there
-
Today’s stats show a click on a link to PInterest that doesn’t exist. I don’t use the site or share links to it. The link was pinterest.com/pin/create/extension. Is it something to worry about?

It could be that one of your site visitors has a browser extension to share images on Pinterest.
Here’s info I found on Pinterest. https://help.pinterest.com/en/articles/add-pinterest-browser-button#Web

Is that the same as pinning? I really don’t want my stuff on that site. I’ve had to set a craft blog to private because every other image got used. When I posted a notice explaining why I’d done it that got pinned. I rarely post photos online now. I’ve found that links to my blogs can sit in that site for a year before anyone clicks on them so it doesn’t get me traffic. I’ve come across suggestions for adding things to prevent pinning but I’m either getting it wrong or it doesn’t work.

@positivegreenford – yes it is the same, unfortunately. I spent a little time looking at past forum discussions on Pinterest and these are the only solutions I found:
1. upload/insert smaller images and watermark them. While this doesn’t prevent someone from pinning the image, the watermark goes along with it. Here’s more on watermarking https://en.support.wordpress.com/prevent-content-theft/#7-protect-your-images
2. Insert a nopin=”nopin” tag before the closing bracket on each image. You would have to do this manually for every image you insert since WordPressdotcom users cannot add metatags to the header of our sites nor can we upload and use 3rd party plugins here.I cannot vouch entirely for the 2nd method since I have never tried it nor do I pin to Pinterest.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately I’m going to have to find someone to help me work out how to do this because I remember trying to add something like that in the past. It didn’t seem to make any difference but from what I’ve read online others have had the same problem.
The problem with watermarking is that unless the mark is right across the image (which I can’t stand) it can be copied and cropped. I’m told that watermarks can be removed.
The whole thing makes me wish I’d never started blogging.
