Stay theme: no German translation for "Amenities" and "Arrival"

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

    How can I set the proper translation for “Amenities” (used for room display) and “Arrival” (used in calendar/booking widget? Some labels in the booking widget can be changed or are translated to my browser’s language, but strangely not all of them.

    Can you make these fields editable or fix the missing translations? :(

    On a sidenote: the standard font is really hard to read on any background color (I did try white, but still the font used in the main menu is really really thin), but I guess that is just so people upgrade to custom CSS ;)

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I also just noticed, that the background is different in the Customize preview and in real: the light blue background is overlayed by a light grey area due to this css:

    #page {
    background: #f6f6f6;

    }

    while in the customize view it is set and saved to the the correct background color (which I can set even without the design upgrade).

    Why’s that so? Can you make it as pretty as in the preview? ;)

    Hi there!

    All of our translations for the localization projects are done by volunteers and users like yourself! You can submit new German translations for the Stay theme here:

    http://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/stay/de/default

    Currently only 65% of the strings in this theme have been translated for German, so the theme’s translation file is not active yet. Once that percentage is over 85%, the translations will be activated in our next activation cycle (usually within 24 hours of the translations being validated).

    You can check the percentage translated here:

    http://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/stay

    If you want to add as many translations as you want or can, a validator will be notified to give them a once over before they’re added. And if you can get that percentage over 85% the German translations will go live for your theme!

    I also just noticed, that the background is different in the Customize preview and in real: the light blue background is overlayed by a light grey area due to this css:

    Thanks for mentioning this! I’ve asked our theme developers to take a look. I’ll let you know when I hear back. :)

    Hi again,

    so I’ve added my suggestions for almost all untranslated items to German, but there seems to be no action ever since.

    How does the validation work exactly, do I need to do anything else, so a validator will get notified to look over it?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for doing that! I’ll ask our internationalization team to ping the validator. They do get a notification, but a little prodding from us often helps. ;)

    Those strings have all been validated now. We push new translations every 24 hours, so if you don’t see them live yet they should go live by tomorrow. :)

    Hey there!

    I just wanted to let you know that the theme developer has pushed a fix for this. No more white box! :D

    Let me know if I can help with anything else!

  • Hi there,

    We had to revert the background fix because it was creating visual and readability issues.

    If you still want to remove the white box, the only solution is via the Custom Design Upgrade with some custom css: #page { background-color: transparent; }

    Cheers,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

    I spent some time thinking about this issue. But I can’t help it.

    The problem is, that the background is not white at all. It is grey. And therefor, the readability is almost always not as good as on a wisely chosen background color…

    So basically you fixed a bug, by planting another bug, and now ask me to _pay_ an upgrade, to remove that bug myself? That is not okay…

    All I am asking for would be a simple checkbox to display or not display the background pane (like you can do with other header or logo stuff). With a pre-defined color as it is now, and if I wanted to change the color of the pane, then I agree, I would need to pay for a design upgrade.

    But to fix a bug? Not so much.

    Hi Monika,

    I have sent you an email to the address which we have on file. If you could go ahead and check that I would appreciate it!
