Stay Theme – Problem with Slider and links.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m looking to create a simple page for my editing, and Stay has worked great – except one small problem.

The images double up. You may have heard this before. So I have four pages, and the slider cycles through the images fine, but right under it is another copy of the individual image associated with that page.

I kind of got around this by creating four separate pages (though not connected to the menu) using the Home template as instructed. So as you can see, the slider now works, there is no second image beneath…

…but… of course if you click on the image it will take you to the (hidden) page that has that image, causing the double up issue again on a page that is of no use to me other than holding the image I want in the slider.

Is there a way to deactivate the link element of the slider, or make it so I could avoid the double up of images in the first place so I can go back to just four pages?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’re misusing the theme. You need an intro page plus four pages. Intro page: home template, no featured image.
Other pages: featured image, default template.
You set the blog front to display the intro page (in Settings > Reading), and you set the home slider to display the other four pages (in Appearance > Customize).

That’s fantastic. Thanks. Cleared it right up. Except for one thing:

On each of the pages now there is a “Search” bar on the left hand column that I really don’t want (for one thing it interferes with my nice Portfolio layout page), but I can’t find a setting to remove it anywhere. It’s not a widget, and I couldn’t see anything under Settings where it might be found. Am I stuck with it?

    You’re welcome.
Regular pages on Stay have a left sidebar (and an optional right sidebar). When you haven’t added any widgets yourself, the theme displays the searchbox as a default sidebar item. You cannot remove the left sidebar except if you buy the Custom Design upgrade. Without the upgrade, the only thing you can do is add other widgets to “Primary Sidebar”.

Thanks again. I guess I’ll make due. :)

    er… I mean “do.”

Hi – i am having similar problems with the slider on the stay theme. I think my reading settings are incorrect:
can you please advise that front page should display:
    – a static page
    –front page: home
    ..posts page: (which one)?

    Many thanks

@archipelago01: The blog linked to your username is deleted. What’s the URL of the blog you’re talking about?

  • Unknown's avatar

hi – sorry it’s southyarraplace.com (im new to wordpress so this is a work in progress)

i think i have resolved the slider issue, however I have a new problem that I cant seem to find on the support forums.
The stay theme comes with rooms, and they are meant to display under the page “rooms and amenities” as per the demo. How do I link them, as they aren’t showing at all.

I should also mention that I started using the Stay theme from the Hotels Landing Page (http://en.wordpress.com/hotels/) and so the Rooms pages/posts? (they have a pin symbol next to them) were already set up for me.

On this post (https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-add-rooms-to-the-menu-using-the-stay-theme?replies=8#post-1237905) it says I need to assign the page to the “Rooms Template” however on the room page/post it doesn’t seem to allow this. Under ‘Attributes’ it only allows me to change the ‘order’ (currently set to 1)

Since the other blog is deleted, go to Users > Personal settings and set your username to link to the new site please:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/personal-settings/

You create room pages in Rooms > Add New, and you edit them in Rooms > All Rooms. You don’t assign the “Rooms” template to these pages, you assign it to the page that should display the rooms, i.e your “Rooms and Amenities” page.

HI , I have the same problem, I have been following all justpi instructions and my home slider doesn´t work Is http://cirugiarinofacialmx.wordpress.com , what can I do?

  • Unknown's avatar

@cirugiarinofacial: I never gave complete instructions on this thread – I only replied to each user’s specific issue.
    Instructions here:
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/stay/

Have you set the home slider to display your pages (in Appearance > Customize)? If so, what you need to change is:
    a) Edit the page you’ve set as the blog front and delete the image.
    b) Edit the other pages, remove the images you have inserted in the content, and set these images as featured images.

    Hi justpi,

I don’t want to assume you are the master of all things “Stay”, but since you seem to know a lot I was hoping to throw another question at you. In the Stay demo, there is a Rooms menu on the left sidebar on every page other than the homepage. How can I add that to my site as well? I thought there would be a widget I could just add to the sidebar, but I don’t see one…

That menu isn’t some special function or option of the theme: it’s a menu created in Appearance > Menus and displayed in the “Primary” sidebar via a Custom Menu widget.
If you’re not familiar with custom menus, see this post of mine:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

PS Your username links to an empty blog using Reddle. You should either correct your username link, or make sure you paste the URL of the blog in question when you ask for help here.
