Stay with GoDaddy or switch to WordPress

What makes more sense for me at this time? To switch to WordPress Hosting or to just map my domain through WordPress and keep my hosting with GoDaddy. I still have 14 months of hosting paid for on GoDaddy.

  • Hi @gslindner,

Mapping the domain would effectively host your site here, so it really just depends on what you need. Perhaps this page will help?

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

You can use our service, which provides hosting and management, as well as support with paid plans. If you use our service, you would need a business plan to add plugins to your site.

Or, if your account at GoDaddy allows it, you can set up your own free WordPress installation there. Just note many hosts do not offer WordPress management and support, or they charge extra for it. This is a good option if you want to handle the technical end of things yourself, or hire someone to help. You’ll still have access to the WordPress.org community here, too: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

  • Oh and I want to clarify too, your host is where your content and images live.

The domain registrar is who you pay to keep your custom domain name going from year to year. If you don’t have hosting at GoDaddy, but just own the domain there and are wondering whether to map it or transfer it to our service, let us know what questions you have about that and we’ll help.
