Steps to moving .com to .org
-
I want to move my blog from WP.com to WP.org – After reading everything I can in support and forums I am still unsure of a few things.
I own my domain, I want to bring it to Blue Host and I want to purchase a theme from StudioPress. I am more than willing to pay for a guided transfer. My question is what are the steps? Since I am moving my own domain? Do I contact Blue Host first, or buy my theme first or contact WP for guided transfer first? I am trying to do this seamlessly.Any help is appreciated,
Karl
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Buy the guided transfer option once you have the hosting and WP.org software installed in it and the theme up and running. Staff will handle the domain transfer as part of the guided transfer process.

Thanks, my other question is , when I go to blue host and click their one step installation option, it asks for my current domain. Can I do this without affecting my current site until WP does the transfer at a later time?
Thanks

Ask Bluehost if you can use a placeholder domain like 173.49.437 or something until the guided transfer is completed. Otherwise, i’d go for the guided transfer and just let staff sort it out; you’re paying $100 for it, the service had better be good.

I understand but my question is if I follow what you say and do the guided transfer after I have hosting and WP.org software, Blue Host is asking for my domain right away. So I’m not sure what happens between then and the guided transfer. If I have given them my domain but the transfer is not done yet will people see a blank site before the guided transfer is done? And at what point should I purchase the theme I like from StudioPress? Sorry if it seems basic but the exact order of things is my confusion…
Thanks Karl

Buy the Guided Transfer first. Then staff will be responsible for sorting out all of this.
