Have read info on sticky’s but still can’t seem to get the results wanted. E.g. after eliminating all the previous sticky’s, except one or two, they still do not appear at the top of my blog.? Another issue is the menu feature; after changing the order and or adding posts, NOTHING changes on the menu??

  • Hi there,

after eliminating all the previous sticky’s, except one or two, they still do not appear at the top of my blog.?

I currently see fifteen posts marked as sticky on your site, including your five most recent posts. Sticky posts themselves are ordered by most recent first, so if you mark multiple posts as sticky, the most recent of the sticky posts will be at the top. So how it currently looks on your site is how it’s supposed to work.

Another issue is the menu feature; after changing the order and or adding posts, NOTHING changes on the menu??

I assume you’re speaking of the “MENU LIST OF MY BLOG’s” menu widget in the sidebar? Or are you trying to change the horizontal menu at the top?

Your custom menu you have defined in the Customizer only affects what happens in the widget at the moment. The site menu at the top of your site is the automatic menu your theme generated based on your published pages.

If you want the horizontal menu to reflect what’s in your custom menu, you need to check the box in Customize ->Menus to set that menu as your primary menu.

However, I do not recommend this – site menus are meant for static pages, not for individual posts, and adding all posts on your site to the menu is going to break your site eventually. Rather consider using something like an archive widget, or create a separate page using the archive block, to create an index of all published posts on your site.

Thanks for your reply, but I’m completely mystified by the use of sticky’s AND editing the menu. First, how is it you are able to determine how many sticky’s I have so easily? I have to go to each and every post and then to a couple of stages just to find out if it has a sticky!? As far as the menu is concerned I only have ONE menu alongside my blog, why is it so incredibly complicated to simply edit it!!!???

Yes thanks. I suppose I was making a fuss over this, but now that I’ve eliminated many ‘sticky’s will the few still designated be ‘at the top’ of my blog as intended?
    Thanks again for help.

  • I would say the fewer stickies you use the better. I still see 13 posts set as “sticky” on your site, so those 13 posts will appear first in your block and on top of everything else.

But within those 13 posts themselves, they are listed in date order, so if you are trying to get an older blog post to appear as the topmost post, make sure there are no sticky posts that are more recent than that one.

What is the title of the post you are trying to have appear as the first post in your blog? Happy to take a closer look and suggest what changes need to be made for that to happen.

Coming back for more help if possible; how do blog followers display their thumbnail pictures as I see on so many other blogs?

  • If they follow the blog with their WordPress.com accounts, and they have set up their profile picture, it will be displayed whenever they comment somewhere, like a post, etc.

ah so they need to be wordpress.com users! Followers of my blog seem to be non-wordpress accounts afaik. Thanks for reply.
