Sticky placing itself in wrong place
-
Hi I can’t figure out why my stickies are placing themselevs in random spots on my blog I just noticed this on my homepage it’s fine but on my older post they are not on the top I don’t know why can anyone help me figure this out? Is it maybe a setting or the Theme I’m using? Here is the page in question diva42.pg2
Thanks diva -
Well, I doubt if the intention of a sticky post was for you to have multiple ones. You’ve got three up there already! Typically, that’s the kind of stuff you use a text widget for.
(By the way – I see that you are using your name as a tag. I seem to recall that was a no-no earlier.)
-
I’ve seen many sites that have more than 1 sticky up I mean after all there is going to be a need for more Than one sticky.
I don’t see how I can place a text widget at the top of my page it only goes in the sidebar typically stickies are placed above all the posts, not in a sidebar.
Why can’t I use my name as a tag?

To fix this problem you could post a sticky post
with links to the articles that you have as sticky posts
now your readers would appreciate it better better if they
had one sticky post that links to the rest. -
Ok Yes I was thinking that too! But I’ve had so much going on I guess I’m going to fast here, LOL
One quick question is there a way to reorder my posts? So I can place them at the very begging as if they were my 1st 3 posts?
Thanks diva -

I just did a test, and I see the same thing on my test blog.
The sticky post is just a post that is “stuck” at the top of the blog. That means it is still a “normal” post as well and it is going to show up in the normal blog pages in chronological order.
I’m on the fence on this one regarding which way I would prefer it worked.

The other thing, the sticky posts will only appear on the main blog page, which in this case is http://diva42.wordpress.com/ .

@teck07 Thank You!!
@thesacredpath the only thing I don’t understand is I have 3 stickies and only 2 are showing in my older post page unless I wrote on the original page rather then adding a post I’ll have to check and see.
Anyhow I guess I gotta be happy with what I have after all it is a free blog!! ^_^ -
@thesacredpath I thought so too but I only have 2 pages of posts if you go to older posts you see 2 stickies mixed in there and they aren’t on top LOL!
-
That’s because a sticky post is simply a regular post that also appears “stuck” to the top of the first page. It is still a normal post so it will appear in chronological order with the other posts. When you designate a post as a “sticky” it does not remove it from the list of normal posts.
-
On page 2, or page 3, or page 4, the sticky posts will not appear at the top of the page. ONLY on the first page.
-
Ok Thanks I understand but I don’t know where to go to change the dates on the sticky posts so they start at the very beginning.
-
The thing is, if you change the dates, then each time you make a new post, you will again have to edit each sticky post and change the dates to get them to show up at the top of the second page. Once you have a third page of posts, that page will not have the stickies, nor will the fourth, fifth, etc.
You change the dates by editing the post, and then above the “save” button it gives the date the post was published on and at the right is an “edit” link. Press that link and you can change the date.

I’ve not seen that behavior for sticky posts on other sites. And, in fact, that is not the way they were explained when they were announced. Seems to me, they shouldn’t be appearing twice, only once.
-
Ok I explained it kind of vague I don’t want at the top of second page rather I want them to begin as my 1st 3 posts that way its not stuck in the middle of things and I don’t look like a complete unorganised fool only a little bit of one LOL ^_^
-
@vivianpaige I know I found it odd too, but I have seen multiple stickies at the Beginning of forums many times and many places although my blog isn’t a forum I do like the concept of having them all at the beginning makes for better communication and organization.
