Sticky post does not move to top of post list
-
I changed the visibility of a post to Sticky so as to move it from half way down a post list to the top. It didn’t move to the top, although its Visibility is marked Public, Sticky.
I have updated a couple of times in case it wasn’t registering, but its position has not change.
Could you explain? Many thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
Right now you have your Posts page listed here in your Reading Settings:
http://leweshistory.org.uk/news/
When you visit that page, the sticky post “Lewes History Group Meeting – Monday 12 January 2015, 7:00 for 7:30pm ” does appear at the top.
I think the issue you’re seeing is the Recent Posts widget (titled “News”) is not displaying the sticky’d post at the top. That widget only displays posts in the order they were published and doesn’t take into account visibility settings, like Sticky.
If you’d like to have that meeting’s post displayed prominently in your sidebar, I’d suggest adding a new Text Widget specifically for that announcement into your widget area. Then link to the post within the text widget.

Many thanks for the explanation, and for your workaround suggestion.
Would it be at all possible for the developer to make the 2010 Recent Posts widget take into account visibility settings, like Sticky?
It would also be helpful for now if the Recent Posts widget page could say that Sticky does not apply.

Hi Barbara,
Several of us discussed the possibility of adding a “show sticky posts at the top” option to the Recent Posts widget yesterday after looking at your issue.
Right now we’ve decided not to add that option because it’s not really the intent of the widget to mimic a sites’ posts page, rather it’s meant to highlight the most recent posts. Sticky posts are usually important, but not necessarily recent.
However, we do have it stored in the queue of Ideas and if we find more users who need the widget to behave that way we can consider the change again.
I’ll start up a discussion on how to handle Sticky in that support document.

Many thanks for putting this on the queue Alex.
At a guess, most of us using WP as a website with a news function rather than as a straightforward blog would welcome the added facility to the Recent Posts widget.
