Still cannot upload pictures to my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

You sent me a message through facebook letting me know to contact you on August 21, 2016. I have been trying to get help with this problem since July 2016. I still cannot upload pictures and it is not due to storage space within wordpress because I even tried deleting pictures and that did not work. I have not used wordpress since July 2016 because I cannot upload my garden pictures which is pivotal to my deck garden blogs.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Thanks for contacting us. I’ve checked your storage space, and you’re only at 12% so that’s definitely not the problem.

How exactly are you uploading images? By using the Add Media button in the post editor? Are you getting an error when you do that? Please describe exactly which steps you follow and what happens.

Can you please check if clearing your browser cache and cookies or using a different browser/incognito mode makes any difference?

Lastly, are you able to upload images directly to the library, here:

    https://ticktockandpoof.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media-new.php

Thank you, yes I have used the add media button for as long as I have been a member and now when I use it I get a swirly where my picture is trying to upload. I do frequently clear my cache and cookies and I did even try using a different browser. Nothing worked. However, using the library I was able to upload my pictures yesterday. Now my question is that accessing the library to upload seems to be a challenge especially when I start a new post. Is there an easier way for me to access my library while making a new post?

  • Thanks for the information.

You should be able to upload via the Add Media button, so now we need to try and narrow down the problem.

When you make posts, are you using the editor at My Site ->Posts, or are you using the editor in the WP-Admin dashboard where you also have the link to the library under Posts ->Add New? Does it work if you use the other editor?

There are also two ways to add images after you click the Add Media button: You can drag-and-drop an image onto the overlay that appears when you click the button, or you can click another button that lets you search for and upload an image from your hard drive. Which method do you usually use, and does it work if you use the other method?

What browser are you using? And what version? You can use https://www.whatismybrowser.com/ to find your browser’s version number, and it should also show you if you are using the newest version of your browser. If you’re not using the newest version, please make sure your browser is updated.

Lastly, if the upload icon just keeps spinning it could be that your connection is timing out, so can you please try resetting your modem/router, and can you try a different connection if possible?

Hi, I think I am using the editor at my site – I am using the button new post and I cannot upload pictures (spinning) using this method. I have windows 10 and have this for a number of years now without any problems until recently. The browser I am using is Microsoft Edge.

    Linda

  • Thank you for confirming the editor you’re using. However, I’ve asked several other questions as well in my previous reply. Can you please answer the others as well?

I need that information to try and narrow down exactly what the problem might be, and unless you answer all the questions and try my various suggestions I won’t be able to help you.

I use the button that lets you search for and upload an image from my hard drive. The browser is 25.1 on Windows 10. I think I have answered all of your questions.

  • 1) The newest version of Edge is 38, so it could be that the browser is outdated. Can you please try updating Edge to the newest version? You can download it here if you have automatic updates on Windows switched off:

    http://browsehappy.com/

    2) And can you please check if you have the same problem form the WP-Admin editor? Go to this link:

    http://ticktockandpoof.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

Then click on Posts ->Add New and try uploading images via the Add Media button there. Does it work if you do that?

    3) Last, can you please try a different connection, or at least try unplugging your modem/router for a few minutes to reset your connection.

Okay, I just updated my Microsoft Edge browser and when I went back to check what browser I was using it stated: Microsoft Edge 14 not 38.

I just found out that it may be my camera itself that is causing the problems. My digital camera is pretty old but still takes great pics but it was built for Windows XP not Windows 10. I did find that pictures taken with my phone are uploadable to f/b and I am going to try and see if I can upload those pics here on w/p

  • The camera should not be an issue. As long as it saves images a JPEG files you should be able to upload it.

I’d appreciate if you can also try the steps I suggested under 1) and 2) above.

I have tried all the steps you listed…….I do use the wp-admin to upload pictures which is not working. I also updated my browser, which is not the number you stated……….I do use Windows 10 with Microsoft Edge. Nothing is working, can’t properly upload pictures.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh and the camera saves the pictures as a JPG file, not a JPEG file

  • I do use the wp-admin to upload pictures which is not working.

Are you speaking of the editor in WP-Admin, or the media library directly which you told me were working earlier?

Can you try it in Chrome or Firefox instead of Edge, please?

And can you try using a different internet connection, or at least reset your moden/router by unplugging it for a little while?

I am able to upload pictures to your site without any problems, so it is not your site that’s blocking anything. That leaves your internet connection or a problem with the software on your computer.

I have been using the WP-Admin editor and now since updating my browser I cannot upload pictures whatsoever; before they would spin or just not show up; now they don’t acknowledge the pictures whatsoever. I have tried different browsers before with the same results. However, I will try it one more time.

Okay tried using Chrome instead of Microsoft Edge and I was able to upload pictures on my laptop. In the next few days I will try doing another post with pictures but so far…….its working!

  • Unknown's avatar

This is very frustrating! When I went to my desktop computer to upload pictures using Chrome……..it did not work. I understand that it is not the wordpress web site but must be my computer and these updates that Windows does that changes things on your computer that they should not change. I just wish that I knew what the problem was! Until I can get this fixed I won’t be able to do my blogs.

  • Okay, you’ve given some valuable new information here: It works on your laptop, but not on your computer. This points to a connection issue first, and a software issue second. I’m not sure I’m able to help if it’s a software issue, but if it’s the connection there might be something you can do.

What internet connection do you use on your computer? A fixed line or wi-fi? And how about your laptop? Same network, or a different one?

If your computer is on a fixed line, it could be a problem with the actual cable. Check if it makes a difference if you replace that. If the computer and laptop are using different networks, the problem might be with your ISP providing internet to your computer.

Something you can do to check is to do a speed test on each machine. You can use this site to do that:

    http://www.speedtest.net/

If the computer shows a significantly lower connection speed than the laptop, we’ve found the problem.

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay, I thought it was working on my laptop but it worked just once. Today I took pictures with my cell phone and uploaded them to my computer and then tried uploading them into wordpress. Again, no such luck. Both computers are on wi-fi and both connected to Comcast internet service. I will try the speedtest and see what’s up. The pictures that I tried uploading were JPEG files. Didn’t make a difference. Although I thought I saw one picture coming through at 100% but when I went to post the picture into my post it was not there. So it may be a speed problem!

  • Unplugging your wi-fi router for a few seconds might help reset a connection if that’s the problem. Also please contact Comcast and make sure they haven’t maybe changed something on their end regarding your account, or that there’s not a known connection issue in your area.
