STILL can't embed videos!!!!!
-
Is there some kind of anti-video-embedding conspiracy at wordpress.com? I have spent three weeks trying to embed a video, first from photobucket, then from flickr, then I finally sold my soul to youtube.
I followed all the instructions from the various support forums on this topic, unlinking the hyperlink, using the gigya code, etc. etc. The last time I posted on this topic, the volunteers at wordpress sent me back to those very same forums.
When I paste the youtube link http://www.youtube.com/embed/Uk3zzeIOQn4
into my post the link just shows up in my published blog post.I’ve googled and googled and scoured these forums and tried everything. I CANNOT FIND AN ANSWER THAT WORKS.
Surely I am not the only one who has this problem? No, I’m not, because I found discussion threads with this EXACT same problem but they were “closed for comments.” If we can’t embed videos just say so! Why waste all of our time?
Because of this issue, I am now planning on leaving wordpress altogether and switching over to one of the other platforms.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi
I use the textual editor, I insert that:
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPBUCluGVHM]You should use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk3zzeIOQn4 to make it work.

You can use GNU Mediagoblin to avoid Google’s censorship but I haven’t found a mean of using the HTML5 video markup with WordPress.com yet, it is currently not allowed.
-
Thank you, I will try that once steam stops coming out of my ears.
How does google’s censorship work? My videos are just dorky 1-minute things about food. I may or may not swear in some of them.

Only ever use the shortcode to post YouTube videos. Every other option fails at some time or other.
-
I’m with raincoaster on this. The shortcodes work every time for me. It takes less than 30 seconds to post one.
The video embeds that WordPress.com supports for all of our blogs – no upgrade required. http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/
Video shortcodes > http://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/#video
For a Flash workaround see here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/07/22/gigya-shortcode-3-widgets/

@sammybakerdavisjr, instead of using the full frame embed link:
http://www.youtube.com/embed/Uk3zzeIOQn4Try using this one to the normal YouTube page:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk3zzeIOQn4Let me know if that works for you.

I am unable to embed photobucket as well although it is supposed to be one of the supported formats
-
What is the URL of your blog? What is the URL of the photobucket video you’re trying to embed?
-
My blog is http://killmenow.org/blog and the photobucket URL is
http://s1096.photobucket.com/user/lbigfoot/media/Names_zpsd4d766df.mp4.html
-
You are in the wrong forum and need to be at WordPress.ORG for support with that version of the software.
-
I had a tussle with videos, until I discovered that cookies must be enabled.
I do not know code and don’t understand why, but that solved the problem for me.

Hi, I am having the same problem with recent videos. I used the gigya code previously with no problems (this one: [gigya width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http blah blah blah" ]), but recently even though the video posts and it shows up, I am unable to play it. I get the error “There was a problem playing your video. File has invalid structure – unable to load video”. I know it used to work perfectly fine, and it doesn’t seem to be a problem from photobucket’s end.
Can anyone help? The blog I’m having trouble on is jessinjapan.wordpress.com
Thank you!
-
You shouldn’t use the Gigya code for youtube videos: you should use the Youtube shortcode as explained MULTIPLE times above.
-
@raincoaster, I’m sorry if it wasn’t clear; I’m not talking about youtube videos, but photobucket ones.
-
Thanks for that, because that totally wasn’t the first place I checked before actually posting on the forum after google didn’t work.
-
-
LOL I remember this was pretty much a big news when WordPress finaly allowed embedding youtube years back. I feel nostalgic now :)
-
Considering one of those posts is actually mine from several months ago, sure. Bet it makes you all warm and tingly inside that you “helped” out, huh?
Now that the sarcasm is out of the way, could I get some real help please? I’ve tried posting the same videos on a livejournal post and it worked just fine, so the problem is not from photobucket’s end, but something going on with wordpress. Since the gigya code worked perfectly fine before, I’m at a loss as to what could be the problem.
