Still importing after 24 hours

    Hi, I’m trying to import content from my personal blog (build on WordPress) to my blog on nyctozen.wordpress.com. I have initiated the import more than 24 hours ago. I can see some media were already imported but no blog posts are appearing yet. I would appreciate if you can help me fix the import process. Thanks!

    What is the size of the XML file, please?
    Is the site you have the XML export file from still online?
    If yes, what is the URL?

    Sometimes the importer gets stuck. If the file is large you may have to import Posts, Pages, etc. in separate files. Or if the file is very large Staff may have to do the import.

    Hi there,

    It looks like the importer had stalled, so I’ve reset that for you.

    As @timethief also asked, how big is the file you’re trying to import? We have a file size limit of 15MB on import files, so if you’re file is bigger than that, please try creating new export files for only a few months at a time, or use an XML splitter app to split your file into smaller pieces and then try importing those.

    Let me know if the importer gets stuck again.

    I wish I could get this far! I have been trying several methods to import a WordPress.com site to a self-hosted WordPress.org site. The import always fails, giving me the messages “failed to import” and “invalid post type.” My husband (and IT help desk technician) has searched the web and lynda.com but cannot find any solution. Can anyone help?

    By the way, the files that download when I try to export are only around 240 KB.

    I’m afraid I’m not able to help with importing to a self-hosted site. As your site is not on our servers we have no access to it, and the importer on self-hosted sites doesn’t work the same as here on WordPress.com either.

    However, the users in the self-hosted forums should have experience with this issue. You can find that forum here:
