Still looking for an answer

Okay here I go again…
Whenever I underline, highlight, etc., it takes three or four times for it to happen, and EACH attempt leaves a blank space at the very top of my post. It’s been this way for sometime and I just deal with it, constantly deleting the spaces, but it’s extremely annoying and time consuming. I cannot post an example because it happens when I am editing and all you would see is the spaces listed.
Hopefully I am clear in what I am saying…..

Hi there. I see a staff member was assisting you in this thread which has since been closed: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/highlighting-feature-erratic?replies=10#post-2182462
Have you since checked whether this issue occurs in other browsers besides IE11? And have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies to see if that makes any difference? http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
If you currently have a post draft saved (i.e. an unpublished post) where this issue occurs, please provide a link to that post in the editor so staff can look at that to try and figure out what’s going on (the rest of us won’t be able to see it).

Let me say this once more…. it happens when I am editing a post, not after it is uploaded, so I am not sure what difference it makes what browser I am using?
Also, not sure what you mean by this:
“If you currently have a post draft saved (i.e. an unpublished post) where this issue occurs, please provide a link to that post in the editor so staff can look at that to try and figure out what’s going on (the rest of us won’t be able to see it).”
This is the one I am currently working on… https://stoutstandards.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=13742&action=edit

The browser makes a difference as the editor is also a web page and might behave differently in different browsers. Try editing a post in IE8 or earlier, and nothing will work as it should.
That link is exactly what I meant. I see someone else has already tagged this for staff in the meantime, so please be patient while waiting for their response so they can help you with this further.

Hello there,
Question for you: Are you typing your post directly into the post editor on WordPress.com? Or, are you pasting the text, then editing and adding formatting in the post editor of WordPress.com?
If the latter is the case, you can ignore the rest of my note below. I can offer a solution for you.
However, if you are typing directly into WordPress.com, without copying or pasting any content, and your formatting is disappearing as you’re editing, please send me a screencast so I can see what’s happening exactly. Shawna requested this in your earlier conversation, linked by KokkieH.
This will create a little video I can watch so I can determine the cause of the trouble. If your computer doesn’t already have a screencast tool, you can use this free online application:
https://www.screenr.com/The screencast application will tell you how you can send me a link/copy of the video so I can take a look.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

I usually paste my text into the editor, then do a little minor editing. It’s also then that I use the “bold”, “underline”, “center”, etc..
-
Hi again!
All right, now we’re on to something, I think…
When you paste your text, are you pasting it into the “Visual” tab in your post editor? If so, instead, I’d like you to paste it into your “Text” tab.
Once that’s done, switch to the Visual tab and do your formatting.
Please let me know how that works for you, and if that gets rid of some of that frustration.
Thanks!
-
I usually paste html code into the text editor and then make the additional adjustments in visual.

Have you gone to Settings->Writing and selected “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML?” Because you should.
-
No I have not. I will check the box when I do my next update and let you know. I hope that’s the cause although I can’t see how that would affect things line center, underline, bold, etc…
Thanks for your help. I will get back with you in a day or two.

Good question, raincoaster.
Disc440, you do not yet have that setting selected. You can try it, and see if that helps. Click here:
https://stoutstandards.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-writing.phpOpt-in, then save your changes.
-
Disc440,
Have you also tried this action on another browser? I’m curious if Firefox and Chrome have the same difficulty.
Thanks.
-
No, but as I said, I will next update and let you all know.
I have to also add that my blog is not new, and since this problem started only a couple of months ago, I’m not sure that has anything to do with it.
-
HTML errors are cumulative. You can go along for ages with no problems and all of a sudden, disaster!
-
Not sure what you mean by cumulative but I will take your word for it. I would think every post is an entity in itself and not a collection of previous ones?
-
Had this checked “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML?” and still had the same problem. I give up.

Hello there,
I’d love to help still, if you’d be able to:
a) create the screencast I requested. (https://www.screenr.com/) If you have time to do this, I will send you an email, and you can reply with the screencast attached.
b) try the same process in Chrome and Firefox to let me know if the same thing occurs in those browsers.
Thank you.
-
Robyn, appreciate your efforts but I am tired of all this. I will just deal with the problem. To have to go through this and that, upload this and that, send this and that, I’d rather just deal with the problem as it stands. Likewise it started happening about two months ago and not one single thing has changed on my end.
I understand the need to keep up with the latest and the best, but it seems that you folks are making changes that you like and are not at all interested in keeping your older customers happy. JMO.
