Hello acmandigo,
I am sorry that you have not received the help you have been looking for. I would recommend to you the WordPress support pages which can answer most, if not all of your questions. If you are new, I would recommend our Getting Started site:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/start/If you could explain to us what it is that you are needing help with; we volunteers would do our best to help you find an answer.

Thank you for responding. The site I am working on is spotteddoglive. I’m having multiple problems, and quite frankly, I find the entire platform so impossible to navigate that searching for answers does nothing but heighten my frustration.
First, I am looking to create a rather simple web page. I am not particularly interested in the blogging features WordPress offers for this particular project, but I am having trouble removing the comment feature from the page.
Additionally, I can’t make sense of the WordPress jargon. For instance, it’s unclear to me whether a gallery and a portfolio are the same thing. I want my site to include a portfolio.
One other thing, can you explain why every time I move within WP admin, it opens a new tab so that I end up with 50 tabs opened in my attempt to do one single thing?
I would be likely to upgrade my site if I can get this initial site looking as I want it to. Otherwise I’m likely to move to some other wysiwyg that I’m more familiar with.
Thank you again for responding.

A blog is a website. The difference between blog and website is simply structure and semantics.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one-way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

They are not the same thing.

I do not know why that is happening.
What is your operating system?
Which browser and version of it, are you running?
