Stolen identity???

  Hello. In January 2020, I closed my online website bakingwithbridget.com. I recently decided to publish it. I just logged into my WordPress account and discovered a new username was created in April. I have no idea who this username belongs to. I am not sure what my next step should be. Can I delete this account and start over with a new account?

  Hi there,

  The WordPress.com account, macawicecreamthebe48711, you’re using to post here, was created in April 2020 when you bought a subscription for the Akismet anti-spam plugin. Logging into Akismet.com requires a WordPress.com account, so when you signed up there, you were also signed up for this account.

  You can find the receipt for that Akismet purchase in your account’s billing history page, here: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing

  You have not accessed this account since then – the first activity on your account since April is when you logged in yesterday, and you’ve never had any sites associated with this account.

  The website at bakingwithbridget.com is not a WordPress.com site, and has no connection at all to WordPress.com. That site uses the open source WordPress software, and is hosted by Digital Ocean.

  To log into that site you need to use your admin username and password that’s unique to that specific site. You cannot access that site via any WordPress.com username account, nor can you log into WordPress.com using your admin credentials for that site, as there is no connection between the two.
