Stolen website/domain name. Help

    I found out that someone stole my business website from me. How do I get it back? Please assist.

    My web address cottonturner.com now goes to an unsavory site in another country! After googgling them, it appears they take websites & try to sell them back to owner.

    Thank you for reaching out! It appears that the domain was previously registered here at WordPress.com but was transferred to another domain registrar in November 2020. Subsequently, it seems that the domain may have expired and entered the general domain marketplace earlier this year following a redemption period. You can verify the DNS history of the domain yourself at https://completedns.com/dns-history/ and observe the entry “Domain dropped*, nameservers removed” in January 2024.

    Regrettably, this indicates that you no longer own the domain. The domain wasn’t taken unlawfully; rather, its registration expired, causing it to become available in the domain marketplace for anyone to acquire. Your sole recourse at this point is to wait and observe whether the organization that acquired the domain chooses to let it lapse after a year. Considering you won’t be paying the elevated price, it might not be financially viable for them to retain it. Hopefully, this situation will ultimately be resolved in your favor.
