stop askimet

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I would like to disable askimet so I see what comments I get in spam.
Also, I would like to communicate with wordpress about how nice blogging is here and having spent one year here already was quite easy and enjoyable.

    Thanks,
    Vishwa Vijay.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

You can ‘moderate’ and ‘view’ your spam folder. where all comments are, you’ll see ‘tabs’ at the top. More info at the link.

You can’t turn Akismet off though, comments on new posts caught by Akismet remain in the spam folder for 2 weeks. If you want that for comments on older posts as well, go to Settings > Discussion and tick the option “Don’t discard spam on old posts”. Then, you can go to the spam folder and click the “Not spam” tab if you’ve checked out the commenter etc.

In Settings > Discussion there’s also the option “Hold a comment in the queue if it contains [ ] or more links”. You can change that too.

You can hold spam if you want, not a setting I would like, since my site had something like 280,000 spam comments last year – some times well over 1,000 a day

    Dashboard >> Settings >> Discussion

    Akismet anti-spam strictness
    Akismet anti-spam strictness

Safe: always put spam in the Spam folder for review.

    Hi,
Thanks for the help but I have maintained the same options already on the above mentioned pages yet I don’t see the comments which is stated to have been deleted by askimet.
    Thanks Auxclass for helping :)
I hope I get some help on how to be able to see the future comments.
    Vishwa Vijay.

    Hi,
I still don’t get to see my spam comments. I can see the number of comments increase in the spam which are deleted by askimet. Can you help me with this please? Also, I had earlier kept the option of ‘the number of links’ to a 3digit number. This was to keep the comment in queue. Now I changed the number to ‘0’. Let it go to the spam and allow me to read them.
    Thanks for your support.
    Much appreciated.

Alright, I saw one spam comment. So thank you so much :) But I also saw the number of spam stopped by askimet increase from yesterday’s count. I would like to see my spam content. Thanks so much :)

    marked for staff, good luck

Also, if it is from a prior spammer (and caught by akismet before) it won’t be viewable

nb: when I used to check it, I’d only find about 1 out of 200 ~ 300 that was ‘ok’.. so deduced it was by far ‘too much effort’

@vishwaspeaks Nor will you ever see spam messages that have dangerous links in them, like those to malware, etc. but those are still counted in the number of spam caught by Akismet.

These are also good reads if you are not already familiar with them:

In the 8 years that I’ve been here, I think there has been one ham in all the spam my main site has received. Akismet does its job well.

    Hi Vishwa,

Your spam comments will appear in your site’s dashboard here:

I’d also recommend the article The Perfect Host: Comment Moderation. It has more tips about moderating comments on your blog and managing spam comments.
