Stop forcing admins to use the simple interface
-
@gemmacevans
I believe I have found what I consider to be a huge bug in the new interface that caused me several hours of debugging to resolve. Tricky so follow closely.I was in the new interface and looking at the statistics (I do not think this part is relevant). I wanted to see the site, so in the upper left, I hovered over the name of the site and got the tool tip to click to see the site.
It took me to the site but within some overlay (underlay?) related to the new interface. On the site I clicked a link to a different page. It opened a new tab and displayed the new page without the underlay.
I then did some other unrelated work and then went back to the last tab opened (not remembering how this tab got opened, just needed to go back and work on the site). As I was clicking around to check different things, I noticed that EVERY click opened a new tab. What is going on???
I checked other WordPress.com and .org sites. No problems. I was using Firefox, so I tried Edge and Chrome. No problems. For the same site/page WordPress was adding the target=”_blank” but only on the original site, and only in Firefox. Not the other browsers. Searched the internet and support forums. Nobody else seemed to be having this problem.
As I was closing the tabs for the site, I noticed the tab with the underlay from the new interface. Aha !! I closed that tab (all tabs to the site now closed). I reopened the site from the url, and it was working properly.
So I then used Edge, and went through the same initial use of the new interface followed by view the site, then click a link – always got another new tab.
Try it. I am sure it will be on all wordpress.com sites, but the one I was on is http://gadoliniumtoxicity.com
Comes back to my request. Allow the ueser’s profile to specify which interface. No recommendations or additional sites until you do.

Hi muddyhubcap,
I’ll take a look and reply to you here when I’ve done some testing.

Hi again,
It took me to the site but within some overlay (underlay?) related to the new interface.
Can you send me a screenshot of what you are seeing here? I haven’t been able to replicate this. You can use a service like Snaggy or Cloudup.
On the site I clicked a link to a different page. It opened a new tab and displayed the new page without the underlay.
Which link did you click? Was a link in the left hand menu or within your content on the site?
Thanks!
