Stop nagging me to use Guttenberg?

  • Unknown's avatar

Can I tell WordPress to stop nagging me every 30 seconds to switch out of the Classic editor to the new environment?

I am an experienced blogger and really know (1) what I need and (2) what I want better than WordPress does.

If you like Guttenberg, great. More power to you. A chacon son goute.

I appreciate having the option available but do not need to be nagged to switch. Ever, at this point.

Is there a setting I am missing that will do that?

    Thanks! Adam

  • Hi Adam,

The reason we keep prompting you to switch is because the classic editor will not be around indefinitely, so it’s better to become familiar with the block editor sooner rather than later. These prompts cannot be disabled.

The classic editor will only exist for as long as the WordPress.org community continues to support and maintain the Classic Editor plugin, and I recently saw an update over there that support for that plugin is only planned to continue until the end of 2022. Once support for that plugin ends, the classic editor will no longer be available on WordPress.com either.

If you prefer the feel of the classic editor, I recommend you instead use the classic block inside the block editor. The classic block exists to ensure backwards compatibility with older content on sites that predate the block editor, and that block will be available for some time to come.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

Thank you, kokkleh. I thought the classic editor was the classic block!

Thanks for setting me straight, will give the classic block a try.

Kokkleh, a small issue with the classic block: it lacks the “add media” tools.

Small because that functionality is available from a keyboard shortcut. But some may have a problem with it.

Personally, I am pleased with it, and thanks again for the information.

  • Hi there,

Actually that option is still found within the classic block, but it’s possible that you may not see it because the icon has changed.

If you watch the video at this link, you will see I am able to add an image on my test site, while staying within the Classic Block

Are you able to do the same if you follow those steps in your Classic Blocks as well?

    Jerrysarcastic,

    Yes, I see, thanks!

I always felt it was odd to have “media” (and “contact form”) as nonstandard buttons separate from all the others.
