Stop posts automatically shifting to Image Format when published
-
Hi there,
On my blog we have a Bird of the Day post that has been scheduled long in advance as a simple Standard post with just a title and image. Ever since I switched the blog Theme to Hemingway Revisited, these Bird of the Day posts get automatically switched to Image format once they are published.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening with CSS? I didn’t see anything in the seven pages of Hemingway Revisited forums.
Thanks for the help!

Hi, and sorry for the problem. I’ve never heard of this happening, but if you could, let’s do a little check on things. I’ve noticed that the next post you have scheduled is Bird of the Day: Yellow-browed Bulbul for June 28th. I’ve looked at that post in your dashboard and confirmed that it is set to Standard Post Format. When that post publishes, check it and see if it has changed to Image Format and post back here, and don’t change it back to Standard so that I can take a look.
Thanks in advance, and we will get this sorted out for you.

Hi thesacredpath. Thanks for checking it out.
The post you mentioned seems to be okay, but it could be that a co-author on the blog unwittingly ruined the experiment by fixing the post format. I’ll check with them and also wait to see how tomorrow’s post does, and then let you know.

Ok, yes, do let me know. If this is happening, we definitely want to get to the bottom of it and get it fixed. We’ve had no other reports of this, but it could be that no one else has noticed or something.

Hello again,
Here’s a link to the most recent post that exhibits this behavior:
You can also see that all the previous posts of this sort were affected when the Theme for the blog changed:

What do you think?
Thanks!

This is a strange one. I see a number of posts after that one that are not image format. Did you change those back to Standard or did they publish as correctly?
-
Also, is this only happening with one author, or is it happening with all?
Is it random? Do some publish correctly, but some do not?
-
The posts that are not image format were changed back to Standard.
The posts have been set up by more than one person but are mostly scheduled by a single person.
All of them publish incorrectly as Image Format.

Hi, I’ve done some more testing and have been able to reproduce this on different themes as well as on Hemingway Rewritten, so it isn’t a theme bug. I’m filing a bug report on this and will report back as soon as I hear something on it. Hopefully it will get fixed quickly, but given we have a holiday weekend coming up, it may be after the 4th.
Sorry for the problem. For now, you will have to edit the posts after they publish and set them back to Standard format.

Thanks so much for looking into it! I’m curious why it never used to happen with our old theme. Hopefully there’s an easy solution.
Thanks again,
Seth

Seth, at one time, although I don’t remember this, and it was very short lived, if a post had just a single image in it, it would be switched to the Image Post Format, but again, that was VERY short lived. I don’t know if this is coming from the WordPress core software, or if it is coming from some change we made to the WordPress.com side of things. I kind of doubt it was on purpose though. I’ll know more after the developers have a chance to dig into it. It may be after the 4th of July before that happens though.

Seth, I was thinking that this had been reverted for everyone, but I was mistaken. It is still active.
What theme were you originally using before your theme switch about three weeks ago? Looking back to this post before your theme switch, http://lapazgroup.net/2016/06/12/bird-of-the-day-demoiselle-cranes-vijayapura-karnataka/ , it is also set as an Image Format. It may well be that the theme you had been using did not have unique styling for image format posts, which is why you did not notice they were image format.

Hi,
I believe we were using the free Vigilance theme, and you are probably right that it did not have a unique style for Image Format posts.
Is there any way to use CSS to command the Hemingway Rewritten theme to use the Standard Format style for Image Format too?
Thanks for looking into this.
-
No, there isn’t. The post format is set by the theme php script files and the WordPress software.
The only thing I can suggest trying is to add one single word, such as “Enjoy!” or something like that to the Bird of the Day posts below the image. In theory, that should keep the software from switching things to the image format since it will see “text” within the post. Edit one of your upcoming posts and do that and see if that keeps the standard format.

thanks for your help and the time to look into this, I’ll work around it in that fashion!

Super, and sorry I didn’t have better news for you. If this was something that was just recently added, we may have been able to get it reversed, but given it has been in place for so long, there isn’t much chance of it being reversed.
