WordPress is a pain when it comes to renewals. They SPAM you until you comply, even if you have turned off ALL renewal options.
Fortunately, there are other hosting providers.

Hi @franciscomdurang It looks like your domain is currently pointing to a site hosted with SiteGround, so if you cancel your domain renewal, your site on SiteGround will become inaccessible. Is that what you wanted to do? Perhaps you wanted to transfer the domain to SiteGround instead? Let us know.
I see that your domain is registered with Automattic, so I’ve also flagged your topic for Staff assistance. Thanks for your patience.

Hi @franciscomdurang
The domain you mentioned is registered on a different WordPress.com account, not the @franciscomdurang account you’re logged into. Due to security reasons, we are unable to turn off the auto-renewal of the domain based on your request from this account. Could you please do one of the following?
- Log into your other account and follow the instructions here to turn off the auto-renewal.
- Or, log into your other account and reply to this thread confirming this request. We’ll go ahead and turn off the auto-renewal for you.
If you’re having trouble logging into the correct account, we can help! Please follow the steps here to locate the transaction ID for any payments made to WordPress.com. Once you have it, please submit the transaction ID using this account recovery form. Our dedicated team will get back to you via email to help you log into the other account or turn off the auto-renewal on your behalf.
Hope that helps!

Hi @gillesdenizotblog
I can see that you have a ticket with us, and we already responded to your queries. Please check your inbox and let us know if you have further questions.
But I’d like to clarify why we err on the side of over-communication when it comes to domain registrations. Did you know you could lose a domain forever if you don’t renew it on time?
Most domains have a grace period to renew the domain at the regular fee after they expire, but then, they enter the redemption period. It costs $80 in addition to the domain renewal fee to restore a domain from this stage. I’m sure you’ll agree that this is a pretty high fee. But it’s not the worst that could happen. If the redemption period ends, someone else could own the domain entirely. At that point, you pretty much lose the domain.
We believe a domain is the most important digital asset for any person or business. So, we tend to over-communicate when domains are about to expire. We’re also legally required to notify our users via email if their domain expires — even if they turned off the auto-renewal.
I completely understand if all the communication regarding the domain’s expiry was troubling for you, and I apologize. But I wanted to give you some context as to why domains are very tricky to deal with and that we have the user’s best interests in our hearts when we reach out regarding an expiring domain.
