Stopping commnets

I have set a sticky post and I do not want any comments but even though I have followed the instructions to edit options for Comments and Pings to Allow or not allow, there is no option to do so. The only option that appears is to trash or edit the post. Please can you tell me how I can stop commnets without this option?

This page > Settings > Discussion is where you set up defaults for comments.

We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any post or page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/Note: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion module hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included.
