Stopping email spam on WordPress.com site
-
I have placed a contact form in one of the static pages of my WordPress.com site. I want to make sure that I don’t get email spam but can’t use a reCaptcha plug-in (or similar) on my WordPress.com site. Does anyone know if WordPress.com offers an anti email spam widget? I don’t want to move to WordPress.org as I am a novice and feel more confident using WordPress.com. I would appreciate your advice.

Hi there,
I’m afraid the information @dashingdidu gave you is not accurate.
There is no way to install Captcha or any other plugins on WordPress.com. No upgrade changes this.
On the other hand, you don’t need to as we already provide spam protection for both comments and the contact form through the Akismet plugin that’s built into your site by default.
Akismet is a learning program, so should it happen that spam makes it through, simply mark it as spam and the plugin will learn to filter out messages like that in future. You can mark contact form messages as spam by going to the Feedback section of your WP-Admin dashboard. You can also view the spam folder there to check for legitimate messages that were accidentally marked as spam.
You can find the WP-Admin dashboard here:

The link you posted contains instructions for self-hosted WordPress.org sites. This forum is only for WordPress.com sites, so those instructions won’t work for any site here.

That’s not necessary. Please just keep that in mind in future, and thanks for your help in the forums :)

Thank you for your help. I’m relieved that the WordPress.com Akismet plug-in will help protect my site from spam. Thank you both for the time you have spent answering my question.
