Strange behaviour in classic editing mode

    I have a site that I have just transferred from WordPress.com to self hosted.

    The old site began 9 years ago using the old classic editor. About a year ago I started writing everything using the block editor, but I didn’t change anything with all the old content. Everything seemed to work fine.

    But after I exported and imported the content to my self hosted site, the old “classic” pages and posts seem to be behaving slightly oddly. In most cases, the old pages look exactly as intended, and if I have to edit them, they can be edited pretty much the same as always.

    But some pages have come across differently. The paragraph spacing has been lost, and to get it back again I have to do carriage returns at the end of every paragraph. Mostly this works, but sometimes I can return later and the carriage return has been “lost”. (I think this may be because doing a carriage return in the editor creates two spaces, so I have been deleting one again, which I guess is wrong.)

    So to be specific, my two issues are:

    1. For some pages (but not others), the export/import process has “lost” the paragraph spacing.

    2. When this happens, the editor doesn’t show the paragraphs as they will later appear. (And, I notice, on these pages when I click in a paragraph there is a border placed around the whole page, indicating it is somehow being treated as one unit. This doesn’t happen with the other pages.)

    But I wonder if this is a common occurrence, and what I can do about it?

    Hi @unklee, sorry to hear it! The import plugin is not a WordPress.com feature, but you can post in its forum here:

    If you’ll let us know which specific posts are affected, we may be able to look at the export, too, to see if something seems wrong there.

    I’m sorry, I didn’t realise I’d posted in wordpress.com, I meant to post in WordPress.org. (It was late at night and I can only plead tiredness!!)

    The import/export worked well. My thinking was that there might be some setting I could easily fix. I’ll take it up on the correct forum.
