Strange blog address

  • Unknown's avatar

Why does my wordpress.com admin account show the blog address: era.404.mn/loginname?

The main purpose of my WordPress.com account is to process the stats of my self-hosted WordPress based website: jenniferlitwin.com. The stats seem to work properly, but the header of the stats page shows: era.404.mn/litwin. Why doesn’t it show: jenniferlitwin.com? Please advise.

    Thank you so much.

  • Unknown's avatar

jenniferlitwin.com s not a free hosted WordPress.com blog and we do not provide support for it.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have separate logins. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

Allow me to rephrase the question: why does my wordpress.COM account show the blog address: era.404.mn/litwin?

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t know and have tagged this thread for Staff attention. Please post screenshot, upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you for the prompt response. Here is the screenshot you requested:

As I tried to explain earlier: the account at WordPress.com was established for the purpose of collecting stats of our self-hosted WordPress installation. It was done several years ago and been working fine ever since. The stats continue to work as usual: data is collected and reports are processed. It’s the address that is out of ordinary. It crossed my mind that it could be a generic address for hidden or disabled blogs, but could not find any confirmation in the WordPress forum, hence the question.

  • Unknown's avatar

Aha! This is a Jetpack issue then. Please be patient while waiting for Staff to respond.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi litwin,

The issue arises because it appears you are using our old stats plugin. If you want to resolve this, you should uninstall that plugin and install Jetpack (http://jetpack.me/). Once you’ve done that, let us know the address of the site running Jetpack, and we’ll run an updater on our end to connect everything back and restore your stats.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thank you for following up.

The Jetpack has already been installed. The address of our site: jenniferlitwin.com . Please do the rest of the magic to restore the stats.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi litwin,

It does not appear that Jetpack has been properly enabled for the site jenniferlitwin.com. You can test the connection and do some troubleshooting here:
    http://jetpack.me/support/debug/

Please let me know when you have successfully connected Jetpack to your site so I can proceed.

    Dear Jackie,

I used the troubleshooting tool you suggested with the following results:

    1. If I select the http://www.jenniferlitwin.com from the pulldown or enter this address by hand, I get “Communication error”.

    2. When I enter http://www.jenniferlitwin.com/wp, I get “Could not fetch your site information” error.

I checked the xmlrpc.php file – it is present in the root directory of the WordPress installation and it is identical to the one included in WordPress 3.5.1 distribution.

If I call the file by address jenniferlitwin.com/xmlrpc.com, I get error 404 WordPress page, but the address jenniferlitwin.com/wp/xmlrpc.com invokes the code, which returns “XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.” message.

I used the third party WordPress XML-RPC Validation Service by Danilo Ercoli. In his tool I entered http://www.jenniferlitwin.com address. The tool detected the location of the xmlrpc.php file and requested login credentials. I provided temporarily changed credentials and the tool was able to execute all tests successfully.

These tests led me to conclusion that, perhaps, the login credentials for WordPress admin are not stored properly in WordPress.com. I disconnected Jetpack from WordPress.com and reconnected with no apparent problems at least three times with no progress.

I am not sure in which direction I should proceed from here. The stats from jenniferlitwin.com are collected properly and the stats report is displayed properly in our WordPress admin. We can see the stats for last two days only, what brings the question: can you copy the old stats to the jenniferlitwin.com stats in WordPress.com account? It’s pretty important for us to retain the stats for the past months.

    Thank you!

  • Hi Jennifer,

It appears that your old stats were still associated with the Blog ID that was created when you first installed WordPress.com Stats on your site.

I have made some changes to your Jetpack settings, and you should be able to get your stats back by going to the Jetpack menu in your dashboard, and disconnecting from WordPress.com thanks to the button in the top right corner. You can then reconnect Jetpack to WordPress.com, and your stats will then be back under Jetpack > Site Stats in your dashboard.

If you experience issues when reconnecting, could you let me know the exact error message that appears when you click on the “Connect” button?
Could you also try installing the Jetpack Compatibility Plugin so we can see some additional information from your site?

    1. Download the plugin from http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/jetpack/branches/jetpack-compatibility-test.zip
    2. Upload the plugin to your site via Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New.
    3. Activate the plugin and go to Plugins -> Jetpack Compatibility Test.
    4. Click the “Select All” button.
    5. Post the results here.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jeherve,

I followed your instructions: disconnected the Jetpack from WordPress and reconnected. All historical stats showed up right away. I did not experience any difficulties while connecting with WordPress.com.

I did run the Jetpack debug test (http://jetpack.me/support/debug/) and it showed the communication error again. So, I installed the Jetpack compatibility test plugin and please see the results below:

If everything works normally on your site, you don’t have anything to be worried about! The test results do not show any connection issues either, so you should be good to go.
