strange category reappearing

    Hi.

    I know there is the default category called “Uncategorized”. This category can’t be deleted, even if there are many others. But it can be renamed. I’ve renamed this default category twice. After the first rename, it was still undelete-able. But after the second one it suddenly was – in the category overview there was a checkbox for it and I suppose I could delete it. I haven’t tried it though.

    But now suddenly every time I open the post view there is one strange category called “410xxxx” with xxx being some numbers. Even after deleting this category, it reappears. I’m unsure whether those numbers change after deleting this category again and again, haven’t paid attention :).

    My guess is that the system tries to restore some state and it succeeds to some point – the category is still delete-able. But the issue is with the double-renaming of the default category IMHO.

    I think that category applies to posts that WERE in the Uncategorized category when you deleted it. The system has to put them in something, so it made one up. You should go back and make sure your earlier posts are in some category, any category, and then I believe it will be deletable.

    Nope, every post has a category assigned. As I said, I never deleted the original “Uncategorized” category, I’ve just renamed it – twice. I only deleted this strange category after it suddenly appeared – also twice.

    I’ve just deleted it once again and unfortunately I can’t reproduce the issue again. Maybe it will appear the next time I post && publish something. I’ll be reporting again.

    I got it once again.

    1) Open the form to enter a new post and type something in;
    2) Don’t assign a category;
    3) Either wait for the auto-save and navigate away or save as unpublished
    –> the post is assigned to the newly auto-generated category ‘410xxxx’, I have the strong feeling that xxxx is always the same.

    Dumb question time – you do have a default category set in your options right?

    [flippant] Of course, the easiest way round this is to remember to set the category…[/flippant] ;)

    Try setting the default category to something other than what it is now and try it again, both assigning a category and leaving it blank.
