Strange 'edit' link icon in blog header
-
I’m trying to understand (and remove) a diagonal ‘chain icon’ that appears in the header of my new blog (https://richardfarrnet.wordpress.com). It takes me (and anyone else) to a page about editing my site. It shouldn’t be there, but I can’t get rid of it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
That icon goes to the default Home page on your site which you haven’t edited or deleted yet. It doesn’t give anyone access to make changes to your site.
The link icon appears there because you appear to have had a social menu set at some point. When you deleted the menu, it wasn’t unselected. Click on My Sites, then click the Customize button next to Themes. Then click on Menus. Click on Menu Locations, and set the drop-down next to Social Menu to the default -select- option. Then save.
You can find instructions for how your theme works here:

Thanks for the quick and clear response! However, when I tried to do this, I found that the Social Menu and Header Menu items were already set to “-select-” and indeed there was no other option available. (There’s nothing else in the drop downs, so I can’t even select something else and then revert to “-select-“.) The only other thing in that space is an “Edit menu” link at the bottom, but it seems to be dead. (It changes color when I hover over it, but clicking it does nothing.) Any other ideas? Thanks.

On my end it still showed a blank menu selected at Social, so I was able to reset it from this end. If you still see that icon in your site header, please refresh using Cmd-R. If that doesn’t work, please clear your browser cache.
