Strange linking going on

Hey there!
I just ran into something very strange and a little disturbing, in the showcase forum there is a thread “looking for photographer to work with” in that thread I entered a reply. Visiting that thread just now, there is a user janewong, i think that’s the name, when you click that name you’re taken to my subterraneanblog. I’m confused. Can one of the volunteers look at this? Should I contact support? Thanks

The link to that username has now been removed presumably by the user who incorrectly linked to your site joer223.

Just to follow-up on that our usernames do NOT link automatically to our blogs or any other sites we must do that manually.
Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to ‘Account Details’. In the spot where it says ‘website’ fill in the address of your blog and save the changes.

So for some reason, unbeknownst to anyone except janewong she manually linked to my blog? weird…….

The software did not do this. Blogs cannot link themselves to usernames and usernames cannot link themselves to blogs. humans have to do that … lol :D

When I checked her username a little while ago there was no site at all linked to it. I would contact the blogger on her blog and ask her to remove the link. Why? Because everywhere she leaves a comment your blog will be linked to her username. Therefore other bloggers may think she is you or at least that she is associated with your blog as an official user (Admin, Editor, Author, Contributor) when this is NOT the case.

I went here http://janewong.wordpress.com/ the blog has one post that is seven years old. I logged a ticket with support. Really strange going ons…..

There are many “dead” blogs. There is no requirement that they be updated. There are also folks who are getting wordpress.com usernames by registering accounts without blogs every day. username accounts or openID accounts are required to leave comments on wordpress.com blogs. Those who use Akismet and/or wordpress stats plugins on wordpress.ORG blog require wordpress.com username accounts. And from time to time I have noticed that there are bloggers who are not wordpress.COM bloggers who are posting to the Showcase forum to promote blogs and sites that are NOT hosted by wordpress.COM. Sometimes they are also posting to the Off-Topic forum.
I have reported this situation to Staff and so have you. There’s nothing more that we bloggers can do.

I mean that there’s no blog linked to that username: clicking on it takes you to your blog, but that’s a bug in the thread.
