strange little problem on indenting using space bar

In my dashboard, I wanted to indent a new line with five spaces using the space bar. Now after pressing UPDATE, it appears that I got what I wanted. But once I preview it, the spaces are gone and the line I wanted to indeed has reverted back to the margin. Did I did something wrong?
