Strange Ping Backs?
-
Hi
I noticed that I got numerous ping backs whenever I post a new story or update a post on my blog. But I don’t understand why it went into the comment page of my “Fan Favorites” section. That section doesn’t has anything to do with the new post on the front page at all.1.What does this mean?
2. I’m wondering if I can delete the ping back comment on the Fan Favorites page.Below is an example of the comment i got.

What you are seeing are “self” pingbacks from your own blog Post from the “Share your favorite cheap eats” link at the bottom of the Post.
Self-pings are useful if you’ve updated information and want that referenced in your Page, or you can stop the self-ping by writing a “relative” link rather than a full link in your Post by leaving off everything in the link before the first backslash.

Whenever you publish a post that contains links to other blog posts or pages, WordPress will send a Pingback to each of those links.
A Pingback is kind of like a comment – it’s an automated message that means “hey, I just linked to your blog post”.
You’re seeing these pingbacks because it looks like you’re including a link to your own fan-favorites page in each of your posts – thus sending a pingback to yourself.

Thanks guys for your comment. It’s very helpful.
I’m wondering if it’s ok to delete all those ping back comments after I received them? I think it should be ok, but just want to make sure:)Cheers,

Yes, you can delete them but I leave mine in to encourage readers to click around my blog. Also, I have a vague superstition that it helps my search engine juice in some esoteric, minor way.
