Strange thing – can't figure…..

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I’m getting along with my site, week by week.
    The strange thing:
I have set my domain to be petitpoisvideos.com.
Searching for it – I land where I should.
However; I had this old site years ago which I some point in time renamed to
    “utenformalgruppe.wordpress.com”.

I’m editing on the right url (petitpoisvideos.com) – BUT, when I embed videos
I have to give both the url’s up to Vimeo – or else the videos won’t show up.

I don’t want to risk crashing what I have already worked on. Can’t figure out how I (possibly) can get rid of the unwanted url “utenformalgruppe.wordpress.com”.

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

I’m editing on the right url (petitpoisvideos.com) – BUT, when I embed videos
I have to give both the url’s up to Vimeo – or else the videos won’t show up.

Can you tell me what documentation you’re following please? The reason why I ask is because, when embedding a Vimeo video, you wouldn’t need to have two URLs.

    https://wordpress.com/support/videos/vimeo/

I can see that utenformalgruppe.wordpress.com and petitpoisvideos.com are the same site so far.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi – been a while….

I suppose the issue appeared when I “changed” the free site’s url :
“utenformalgruppe.wordpress.com” to have the domain petitpoisvideos.com.
Maybe I did something wrong there – or missed doing something?

My account on Vimeo is working as it should. I allow my videos to only be
embedded on special sites – which I have to provide the url for.
I looked in to my wp.com account again to see if there was anything more for me to do, but only the site, which is the correct one petitpoisvideos.com is listed.

So it continues, when embedding – I have to list both the actual wp.com site and the not listed, not in use, one.

    Suggestions how to fix?

  • Hm, actually that does make sense.

You’re editing under utenformalgruppe.wordpress.com so that has to be allowed for the video to appear in the editor.

And the site displays under petitpoisvideos.com so that has to be allowed for the video to appear on the site.

If you’re ok with the video not appearing in the editor as you write/edit the post, you could leave out utenformalgruppe.wordpress.com

    Thanks for replying.
    No, that doesn’t work.
I’ve just tried it out – same thing happens on the published site.
I get the same message; have to also “embed” on the site not in use.

  • Hm, ok, but if you whitelist the embed for both petitpoisvideos.com and utenformalgruppe.wordpress.com it works?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes – then it works.
Very strange, though – it should not be like this?

Has anybody a clue why this matter exists?
Has anybody a clue how to fix it?

  • Hi there,

There is not a specific fix we can deploy on our end. All WordPress.com sites use the WordPress.com address in the admin area.

i.e. when you edit your site, our “web app” is installed on our servers at WordPress.com. That is why when you edit your site you see (in the admin areas where you manage the site) the address of utenformalgruppe.wordpress.com

We do not have a way to apply the petitpoisvideos.com to admin pages like that (it can only be applied to the public pages your visitors see) so that is why you have to whitelist both URLs

If you wish, it may help to give your site a “wordpress.com” address that matches, like petitpoisvideos.wordpress.com, will that help? If so you can change your private admin address here: https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/utenformalgruppe.wordpress.com/change-site-address/petitpoisvideos.com

Just enter “petitpoisvideos” in front of the “wordpress.com” and follow the steps on your screen. It’s not possible to have a single address for your site, but at least this will allow the two addresses to match and relate to one another more closely.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Hello – thanks for replying.

Well, I paid for the domain petitpoisvideos.com, so having wordpress.com back in the end of the url will make the payment useless……??

OR – your suggestion will be my private one, and public (online) will still be petitpoisvideos.com yes?

    I changed the address.
Let’s see how I go next time I edit site.

    Thanks.
