Strangest Thing

But doing that will probably utterly bork your stats, as Angie Sightings is what they are actually counting. Depends what you want; do you want it to look good, or do you want to know what your readers are reading and how many you’ve got. If I’m interpreting the implications correctly (correct me if you KNOW I’m wrong) you will also be out of the running for Top Blogs, Top Posts, and Growing Blogs, as those are at least partly stats influenced.

raincoaster,
That piece of CSS, if I am reading it correctly, will just hide angie – she will still be called, you will just not see her.
I might try it to see if it does “bork” the stats. -
I don’t know why they can’t just use a blank spacer gif like normal people. Everyone using the stats plugin knows that an image is being served and monitored, so it doesn’t have to be visible.

heh heh “Angie sightings” :)
I’d have to go find the link but there is a bit of css that staff has been recommending to remove seeing the face.

Cool, thanks for the update. I was getting it confused with another thread where someone removed it entirely.

If you use Adblock Plus, that handy addon to our favorite browser, Firefox, you will get this (or a similar) URL for the smiley:
So indeed, http://stats.wordpress.com/g.gif is a way to generate statistics for blog pages (like which theme you are using etc).

Did anyone determine if using the css to set the display attributes to 0 borks the stats?
-
Using Digg 3 it appears on the right and for me it spoils the look of the theme. I like things to be symmetrical and the way I want them, so this completely prevents me from using that theme.
Since you cannot edit the css without paying, I think it’s only fair for people to be able to remove it from their blogs.
Putting it on the bottom is absolutely fine with me, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with each theme. -
hi this
img#wpstats{width:0px;height:0px;padding:0px;border:none;overflow:hidden}
really works for firefox but not for safari
does anybody know why or how to solve it for safari?
