Streaming Audio
-
I am having troubl streaming an audio file on my blog, I have read over many, many threads but seem to be running into the same problem. I do not have the space upgrade but have hosted the file on a different site which I was told allows hotlinking, fileden.com, but when inserting the file name via the audio tag the file just constantly says its buffering. I have tried to “un-link” the file name address which I heard could cause problem but am still having the same problems. Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.
If not is there another audio player I can upload and embed in my blog, thanks so much for the help.

Try putting an = between the word “audio” and the URL, with no spaces. Some people find that is essential. And there have been reports that you should do this only in the HTML editor on certain themes, so try putting it in there instead of the visual editor. Please report back if either of those help.

That is a 39.1mb MP3 file and I expect it will take some time to buffer enough for it to start playing. That is all I can think of.
-
@raincoaster – I was previously posting it in the HTML editor but will try the “=” as an option.
@thesacredpath – I have yet it buffer for quite a long time without any results, but will again let it go further.
Could it be that I am trying to preview post that is not published? I wouldn’t think it would make much difference but thought I would ask. Also if these aren’t the problems does anyone know of another audio player that I can use?
Thanks again for the help.

Break the link in the file. That seems to clear up the buffering problem.
Also – it seems that the = sign is necessary when putting the text in using the HTML tab but not when using the visual tab.

I tried all the above suggestions and still have the same problem, any other ideas? Or is there another audio player I can embed?
-
Yes, I believe it is that you are trying to preview a post that is not yet published. Until the post is published, you won’t be able to play the file.
-
I would suggest you use the new URL you’ll get after reuploading your mp3 in Fileden with no spaces in its title.

Hey all: Thanks for the responses. I tried all of the above suggestions and still was having the same problem. However, after successful uploading and streaming a regular mp3 from my library I have come to the conclusion that the problem must be from the 8Khz sample rate or that it is a mono recording and not a stereo. I have come to the conclusion it is not possible with the WP.com player.
Therefore is there any other player that I can be embedded in my blog. Again thanks so much for the help guys/gals.

You can use the Odeo podcast. But the WP.com audio player is mono as far as I know. It could perhaps be the sample rate; can’t you change that?
-
@beyondthedpad: I downloaded your file and converted it to a regular 128kbps mp3. Became half the original size, and works alright in my tests blog (with both versions of the shortcode).

@Raincoaster: I am sure you could change the sample rate, but when I tried in Audacity it just made the audio high pitched and seem like it was in fast forward. I am no audio genius so I am sure there is a way, I just couldn’t figure it out myself. I will look into Odeo, thanks again for your help.
@Panaghiotisadam: Thank you so much for your help, I can’t download it now from my current location but will do so and post my outcome. Thanks for converting it, much appreciated.
-
I think it may work; but for some reason the full audio did not get converted, so for future reference was there a specific program you used? If so I will try that. Thanks again.
-
@beyondthedpad: You mean the huge gaps? Naturally I hadn’t listened to the whole thing. But that’s the way the file I originally downloaded was – nothing different in my converted one. So your file is probably corrupt.

i cannot upload anything more that pictures :(((( no matter if i hit the sound, video or image upload i am getting the same upload screen that only allows images to be added to the library. please help!
-
@warsongu: You should have searched the FAQs and the Forum for that.
To upload an mp3 in a wp.com blog, you must have the paid space upgrade. If you don’t have it, you upload the mp3 in an free hosting site that provides DIRECT URLs (e.g. Fileden or Getdropbox), get the direct URL from there and paste it in your post or page with the shortcode for the wp audio player:
[audio URL_HERE]
or
[audio=URL_HERE]

@panaghiotisadam: Thanks again, I just started form the original source audio and have worked it out. Thanks for your help, you were a big help.
For any others looking for an answer, it appears the mp3 has to be in traditional mp3 format for it to be able to stream, once that was accomplished I had no problems at all. Thanks again everyone..
