Stretched images
-
Some images in my previously published posts appear to be stretched, they weren’t like that before. How can I fix it?
-
Hi there!
Could you please share a link to the post/page where the images are stretched? We’ll have a look.
-
Hi, thank you. Links below:

-
When I go to the links directly, images are not stretched but they are stretched in those aforementioned posts as i scroll down on the main landing page – https://wearabout.wordpress.com/
-
I see what you mean as I scroll down, yes. That’s … weird.
If I edit the page, I do see that these stretched images are actually slightly wider than the others.
I think this older theme is having some trouble with that, it is almost 16 years old after all.
Have you considered switching to a newer theme? https://wordpress.com/themes
-
Is there no way around this?
I prefer this theme it’s minimal and the simplest.
If I move to another theme, I’m sure the image size is going to change post to post and I’ll have to manually resize them as right now the theme width is fixed and it auto sizes all images to that(at least it was doing so until now). -
Each theme has a default size for images but with the new Block Editor, you can also easily control the size of each.
If we can reproduce this we may report this to our developers, however, as staff-blorbo mentioned, this theme is 16 years old and it would probably be retired rather than fixed.
I would encourage you to look at other themes, you can filter them for a feature you are looking for. For example, here you can see the minimalistic ones:https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/minimal
You can try the older themes without activating them by clicking on the three dots next to the theme’s name and choosing the option Try&Customize.
This will allow you to see how the theme would look like with your content and how could you customize it.

I tried some of them and they alter the text format and image alignment in the older posts. That would mean I’d have to go to each post and manually make those changes.
I fixed the older problem by going to those problem posts and adjusting images manually. So it’s alright for now and thank you for your help.
I have an off topic question: Why has WP changed the backend? I am an old user and I’m only trying to concentrate on my content and would prefer my theme to stay same. But with the backend being changed, I have to now work with all these new tools that I don’t really need.
I understand things evolve and users must too, but there may be some like me who don’t need newer tools. Is it possible that they keep the option of using old theme and old editor? -
After about 16 years of the old editor, we felt it was time for a change, to make things more visual and easier for new users.
If you really want to use the classic editor, it is still available: https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editor
We also have tips for transitioning from the classic editor to blocks https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/ and FAQs: https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/#frequently-asked-questions
We do recommend the new editor though, and we have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
If you have feedback that could help make the new block editor a better experience for you, please let us know here: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/feedback-thread-for-the-block-editor/
