Structure Theme Setting "Featured Image"
-
I got the instructions yesterday about where to look to find out how to set “featured image” on the structure theme. However, it didn’t really tell me anything I need to know.
Here is a copy of the instructions: To set a featured image, you click the “Add an Image” button or the “Set featured image” tab of the Featured Image module (on the post editor screen)…1. Q: WHERE is the “Featured Image module”?
2. Q: WHERE is the “post editor screen”?I have no idea where eitehr is and can’t find them in the menu list. Please help, this theme is literally driving me insane with problems.
thanks,
TW

1. Q: WHERE is the “Featured Image module”?
On any post or page locate the Publish box on the far right hand side and then look down that column. You will see a “Set a featured image” link. See this image.
2. Q: WHERE is the “post editor screen”? To edit your posts, go to Posts -> Posts in your dashboard menu.

Still waiting….
Just to be clear on this you have posted to a peer support forum where Volunteers ie. your fellow bloggers provide answer to suuport questions. the trunaround time for answer on any blogging forum is 12 – 24 hours and on many forums much longer than that. Here we Volunteers provide answers in far less time than what other experience on other forums.

Thanks time, but it’s not correct either. ON “ANY” page (I selected ADD NEW POST). There is no “featured Image” option there.
I have:
1. Publish
2. Categories
3. Writing Helper
4. Tags
5. Likes and SharesBut NO “featured Image” option.

I would also like to recommend this article by another forum Volunteer on the Structure Theme. I also apologize for my typos above. I’m visually challenged and my app doesn’t always work well.

Yes I am admin. And again, thanks for the time and links. But unfortunately, once again, the link with the “structure” instructions do not specify how to set the features image. In fact, the blog on that page is almost exclusively about how to set the featured image, no one seems to have gotten there either. This is a real [problem with this theme. Someone has to know how to do it, or it simply can’t be done and it’s not been corrected to reflect that.

Something is being assumed by those who provide info that needs to be part of the instructions for this since it seems it’s very, VERY, XVERY common for this theme.
For what it’s worth.

You are not looking in the correct place. Look on column over to the right below the big blue Publish button. .
The far right hand side column:

You’re trying so hard, and it’s appreciated, but it still wasn’t the right instructions. Screen Options must be selected (check box) to show “Featured Image” option first (I just found out from other user). Then, and only then, does the featured image option show up. After that, it has to be selected to upload, then selected as “Use as featured image” then “Add to post” then “Publish”, then you get it. WHAT A TOTAL NIGHTMARE.
WordPress desperately needs a good UX designer for things like this. I could make that entire function a “SINGLE STEP”… : /

I was just about to post that there are Modules that can be hidden and to “Unhide” them we click screen options.
Also note that if you do not optonize and persize the featured images to the dimensions required then you will experience problems as well.
Structure
Small: 440 x 240 on the home page for featured posts
Medium: 620 x 380 on the home page for latest feature post
Large: 640 x 392 on single posts -
I did the UX for Expedia when they were losing 5 mil. month in 1997. in * weeks they were making money, ALL because of previously poor UX design. WordPress is in dire need of this.
Then again, the owners (WorldTravel BTI) had to forcably remove their own team, programmers, designers and others and let our outside team do the work. We fixed it in 8 weeks, they made profit from that day on. We still work with them to this day, and of course their programmers and team still hate us because we are so much better, bu that’s what we get paid for.
If this “Structure” theme can confiuse me, I can only imagine what it’s doing to people who have trouble with this stuff.

Thanks again time. I’m going to write them a proposal to see if they’d like to fix the multitude of issue they have with UX. That’s what my firm does, and we’ve done it for over 50 fortune 500 companies, even though they have their own team, I’m sure they are not as good as we are sinmc we specialize in this.
They need REAL help in this area.

It still wasn’t the right instructions. Screen Options must be selected (check box) to show “Featured Image” option first (I just found out from other user).
Of course my post on Structure does mention this (along with everything else you need to know), but this user seems reluctant to read. Best wishes from me too.
