Struggling to make block editor do what I want

I am using the block editor on the Rockfield theme. I want to create a short list with star ratings for each item. Because I want half stars, I am using images to do the stars.
So I created a 2-column block and put a Custom HTML block inside each column. Inside each HTML block I put 6 sets of paragraph tags and styled them the way I wanted. I was hoping it would look like this (imagine the asterisks are my star images):
Item 1 ***
Longer item 2 ****
Item 3 **
etcWhen I used the preview on the HTML blocks, they each looked exactly as I wanted them to, but when I saved the page and used the page preview, they went crazy, looking like this:
Item 1 ***
**** ** ****
Longer item 2Item 3
etc
Can anyone make sense of this for me please? Should I just ignore the page preview, trust the block preview and publish?

I see the above doesn’t totally represent what happened. Ignore the underlining and it looked like this.

It seems that you have already published the page and the list looks just as it should. Do you still need help with it or were you able to fix it?

Yes, I can’t remember what I did now, but I eventually found a way to make it work. But I was still curious as to why the page preview and the block preview were showing so differently..
Anyway, sorry to have bothered you when I was eventually able to work something out, though I can’t remember what I did now..
