Struggling with WP…
-
Hi
I am starting out on WP after 10+ years of using Wix…I feel I need to move for better SEO etc after lots of people telling me Wix sites are restricted on their SEO and Google don’t rate them as highly. However, I am really finding it tough…Wix was so easy to use and I have now spent hours trying to learn WP and understand what I need to do but I am so confused. I have watched loads of videos and asked support lots of questions but still stuck. I am trying to build a new site for an idea I have but the post templates are so restrictive and I have been asking the AI help for guidance but it just contradicts itself all the time. I have downloaded CPT UI and ACF and GenerateBlocks but still can’t work out how to edit the single post templates to do what I want…I want it to pull through the data in the ACF so I don’t have to build an individual page for every item but it won’t work. Can anyone help at all?
Thanks so much

Hi Becky,
Welcome to WordPress.com! After using Wix for over a decade, it’s understandable that the shift feels challenging. The WordPress.com ecosystem offers more flexibility and long-term growth potential, but there’s definitely a learning curve at the start. You’re not alone in feeling this way, and we’re here to help.
The tools you mentioned, CPT UI, ACF, and GenerateBlocks are excellent for building custom content setups, but they’re third-party plugins not built into WordPress.com. Because of that, the way they interact with our system can vary depending on your plan and setup. It would be best to reach out directly to their respective support teams for plugin-specific guidance.

Thank you for this, I am determined to work it out but it feels a bit overwhelming so any help would be great.
I have created a post type in CPT UI and then added the field in ACF, I go into my post area and want to customise how everything pulls in but I can’t seem to make it work. My organisation, for example, goes Food items – Bakery – Rolls – then individual products which I wanted to pull in using some sort of automatic fields in a template but can’t seem to make this bit happen… -
While CPT UI and ACF are powerful tools, they’re third-party plugins and aren’t supported directly on WordPress.com. Before diving deeper into those, I’d suggest trying out the built-in tools we offer to organize your content. They might already give you the structure you’re looking for:
- You can group your posts by categories to create main sections, like “Food items” or “Bakery.” Learn more here: https://wordpress.com/support/posts/categories/
- You can use tags for more specific labels, such as “Rolls” or “Bread.” Learn more here: https://wordpress.com/support/posts/tags
- To better understand how these two work together, here’s a helpful guide: https://wordpress.com/support/posts/categories-vs-tags/
These built-in tools automatically create archives and help your visitors browse by topic — no custom coding or templates required.
