stuck between wp.org and wp.com
-
i have two blogs that i manage through wordpress, but host elsewhere. now i need to move them to wordpress. i’ve gotten partway with one. i’ve changed the name servers, starting to follow these directions: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
but i got stuck, because there is no ”store” tab in my wordpress dashboard.i did some research, and it seems this means that my blogs are part of wordpress.org rather than wordpress.com. so i tried setting up new blogs through wordpress.com so i could move my current blogs there. but those domain names say they’re taken (by me) so maybe my blogs ARE through wordpress.com?
-
For starters, until you give us all the URL’s involved nobody can even start to help you.
Note: you can be a user on a WordPress.COM blog and not have a store tab
-
-
actually since i’ve changed the dns for the feminist review, it’s not showing up at thefeministreview.com now.
the instructions for mapping an existing domain necessitate the store tab so i can upgrade to hosting my sites through wordpress. so how can i move forward without a store tab?
-
http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-a-domain/
you only have the Store tab on the WP.com sites.
-
so how can i host my sites through wp.com? what’s the workaround since i don’t yet have a store tab?
-
-
i’ve tried that, but i can’t give them the right urls, because i’m told the urls are already taken (by me).

http://www.annalisagross.com
http://www.thefeministreview.com (which is unavailable right now, since i’ve already changed the dns to wordpress) -
Nothing is going to happen with thefeministreview.com since all you seem to have done is point the name servers to WordPress.COM and domain helper shows no domain mapping – so that site is going to remain as can’t find the server forever until you domain map it to a blog here – which means you need to have a blog to map it to
You have yet to give us a WordPress.COM blog that you need help with – and until you do that nobody can help anymore
-
I’m following these instructions: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
and I’ve completed #1 for http://www.thefeministreview.com
but I’m stuck on #2 because there is no “store” in my dashboard.annalisagross.wordpress.com
thefeministreview.wordpress.com -
-
that’s the problem i don’t know how to overcome – how do i move my hosting to wordpress.com without the store button? the instructions for mapping an existing domain specify that i use the store
-
What part of you need a blog here don’t you understand
(lame-blog.wordpress.com – or what ever you want to call it) –
no blog no store – simple –
-
hey, these were the instructions given to me by the company that currently hosts my sites. apparently i have wordpress.org sites, so they are the wrong instructions. but some people suggested that there are wordpress.com dashboards that don’t have a store, so i thought i was in that category. especially since the wordpress.com versions of my sites are taken/reserved. but i don’t have access to them, so i don’t think they’re connected to my sites at all. thanks for looking!

If you are an admin – you have a store –
if you are an editor and below you have no store – that you can see – you need to be an admin on a blog here to have a store –
If you are and Admin on http://annalisa144.wordpress.com/ then you will have a store
thefeministreview.com – will never have a store – period end – if the URL goes to a WordPress.ORG blog – there is no store – if the URL is mapped to a WordPress.COM blog here – you will never ever be in the dashboard of thefeministreview.com – period end – you will work in the Dashboard of the blog that thefeministreview.com is mapped to
Everything here is based on your-blog.wordpress.com – and that includes the store
I have not seen the Dashboard of captnmike.com since I moved here two years ago – I only see the base blog the domain name is mapped to

Howdy,
Sorry to hear of the trouble and hope we can get this cleared up for you.
So, you have two WordPress.org sites and I can see you’ve made two WordPress.com sites ( http://annalisa144.wordpress.com and http://feministsreview.wordpress.com/ )
To map your domains, you need to do this process for each site, just changing the first URL.
- Visit the Dashboard of your WP.com site and go to the Store->Domains page. Direct link: https://feministsreview.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
- Type in the domain you’ll like for that site, in this case thefeministreview.com
- It’ll tell you it can’t be registered, but can be mapped–click the checkbox indicating that you own the domain and would like to purchase mapping for it instead
- Continue on in the prompts to complete checkout and change the nameservers, if you haven’t, to ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com and ns3.wordpress.com
.
One possible point of confusion is your Store tab is on your blog’s dashboard (your blog’s address followed by /wp-admin) and not your personal WordPress.com homepage (at http://wordpress.com).
If you need any further help, please do reply back to this thread and we’ll get you squared away.
Thanks auxclass for the help!
