Hi all, A while back i put my site in maintenance mode. I am able to log into wordpress.com and .org but I cannot edit the site because of maintenance mode. Its asking me for a username and password for authorisation and nomatter what i try it doesn’t register. it will then open up a authorisation box and ask again for username and password which always fails. I cannot access my site via ftp. is their any work around or am i locked out my site forever more?

any help would be much appreciated.

if you are not able to fix this because of login issues I will tag the Happiness Engineers for you. The only fixes I was able to search did not identify log in issues.

    cheers

  • Hi there,

Your site is not hosted with WordPress.com, so we have no access to or control over it, and are unable to help you with this. If you set the site into maintenance mode, it was something you did in your hosting provider’s control panel, and that’s where you need to go to set it back to production. So you’ll need to contact them for help with this.

Thank you for the reply. I dont quite understand what you mean. My site is a wordpress site. I used a maintenence mode plug in installed from wordpress and installed it in wordpress. My domain name is from ukcheapest and the hosting is just ukcheapest connected i think. My hosting is separate as i have never used it to make any kind of edits to the site.i always logged into wordpress and installed plugings from there.

  • Your site is a self-hosted WordPress site, using the WordPress.org software. That is something completely separate and different from WordPress.com. WordPress.com sites cannot be set to maintenance mode and you cannot install plugins to them. The only reason you can install plugins via WordPress.com is because you have the Jetpack plugin which connects your site to WordPress.com, but it is not installed to the WordPress.com servers, and it’s not using our version of the WordPress software.

    WordPress.com and WordPress.org

In your case your site is on ukcheapest’s servers, as they are your host, so only they can help you regain access to that site.
