stuck meta widget

  • Unknown's avatar

I am new to using WordPress so maybe I am missing something, but I can not seem to remove the Meta Widget from the secondary sidebar of my site. I have gone into the widgets screen and clicked open the arrows to open all the widget areas and none of them show the Meta Widget. I cleared my cache and refreshed many, many times, but it still is showing that Widget. I have no idea how to get rid of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! Catherine

    Hi Catherine,

If you add a widget to that sidebar, the meta widget will disappear when it is replaced with new content.

However, you may not want that sidebar at all, and prefer the page look like Mystique’s demo here:
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/mystique/#jp-carousel-7136

If this is the case, in your Dashboard, click Appearance → Theme Options and choose “Content-Sidebar.”

That should do the trick! If I can help in any other way, please drop me a line. Cheers :)

Thanks for getting back to me! I really appreciate it. I hear what you are saying, and it makes sense, however after looking at how the site looks with only 1 sidebar, I was hoping to set it up to have the settings for 2 sidebars, but only to use one. This way everything on the main sidebar would be smaller. I want to get rid of the Meta widget and leave that sidebar blank. Is that possible? Thanks for your help.

Or if there is a way to shrink the width of the one sidebar that would be even better. Thanks again! Catherine

    Hey there Catherine!

Adjusting column widths is only a feature that’s available with the custom design package that comes with the Premium upgrade. If changing column widths is important to you, take a look at this:

    WordPress.com Premium [Redirects to Plans]

If you don’t want to upgrade, you would have to utilize one of the solutions I’ve offered…or, if you’d like, I could help you find a new theme that is laid out in a way that might make you happier.

Let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.
