Stuck with two user names

  • Unknown's avatar

First off I want to say that I find it ridiculous that I can’t actually talk or chat with anyone from WordPress about this. I somehow ended up with two user IDs on WP. The one they ‘see’ me as has no activity on it. The one I’ve been blogging under for almost a year seemingly doesn’t exist with them. I can’t do complete updates. I’ve tried to change or delete the one I’m not using without success. Can anyone get me out of this catch 22?

Assuming you are referring to a site and username accounts hosted by wordpress.COM that you failed to post the URL for and not to a wordpress.ORG account or site note that all support docs are at https://en.support.wordpress.com/

    See: Getting WordPress.com Support https://en.support.wordpress.com/help-support-options/

There is no phone support. Those who have a paid upgrade for a wordpress.COM site can use the “Contact Support” form, http://support.wordpress.com/contact/

The best WordPress.COM contact form to use now for Staff assistance is:
    http://wordpress.com/help/contact

Live chat will be available there only if we have Happiness Engineers available to chat. When they are not available using that link results in posting to this peer support forum. https://en.support.wordpress.com/live-chat/

    re: direct email support
Also note, that you can email WordPress.COM Staff at:

    help@wordpress.com

    Hi @ejv502,

I find it ridiculous that I can’t actually talk or chat with anyone from WordPress about this.

I’m WordPress.com staff. If you post to the WordPress.com forums and would like a member of staff to reply, you can tag your post with ‘modlook’.

The one I’ve been blogging under for almost a year seemingly doesn’t exist with them.

What is the URL of the site you have been blogging on? As you say, there are no sites connected to the WordPress.com account you are logged in to. Once I know the site URL, I’ll look into what is happening.

Hope to hear from you soon.

ericsgonewanderin.com is a wordpress.ORG software install on paid hosting, hosted by BlueHost, not by wordpress.COM.

That site is not on our servers. You are posting to the wrong support forum.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, support docs and support forums, and many people get confused about the two.

The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/

This is wordpress.COM support. We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
    (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
    (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.

Also, note that we do not provide Jetpack support https://jetpack.com/support/ for sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.

Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.com/support/

Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
    http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack

However, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.

Thank you for pointing out all the error of my ways. If the answer to my dilemma is in your content, I don’t know how to recognize it.
What I know is this; when I am on my site and trying to activate and update my spam filters and some other plug ins, it asks me to log in to WordPress.
Thats where I enter my catch 22.
In a perfect world from my standpoint, when a person goes looking for help, what they hope for is to find a person who says, “I understand where your stuck and we/you need to do this, this, and this to get it fixed.”

This is wordpress.COM and your login information for this site http://www.ericsgonewanderin.com/ which is a wordpress.ORG site is not the same as our wordpress.COM login information.

    Hi @ejv502,

What I know is this; when I am on my site and trying to activate and update my spam filters and some other plug ins, it asks me to log in to WordPress.

As @timethief mentioned, ericsgonewanderin.com is a WordPress.org site. This means you will have a separate login for that site. This is the login URL:

    http://www.ericsgonewanderin.com/wp-login.php

So although it has the WordPress symbol at the top, it is in fact a separate login from the WordPress.com account you are replying to me from now (ejv502).

Once you have logged in to ericsgonewanderin.com you should be able to make the updates you need. However, if you can’t remember the password for that site, you use the ‘Lost your password?’ to reset it.

If you have any other problems, the WordPress.org support forums are a great place to get advice:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

Hope this helps solve your catch 22 :)
