Stupid mistake (domain)

  • Unknown's avatar

    I accidentally registered a domain name with WordPress.com, then I cancelled it 10 minutes later. They say on WordPress that after cancelling I may not be able to register it again, but it was an honest mistake and I fixed it as soon as possible.

    Now, I can’t register the name because it says it’s already taken. Is this temporary? Do I just have to wait it out? Is there anything I can do about it?

    @adamsolberg,

    This support document states that “after cancellation, there is no guarantee the domain will become available to register somewhere else, and you may not be able to get it back”.

    You can’t register it again because the registrars think that is taken (by you) . I’d wait a while and see if you can register it again later.

    I hope this helps!

    The reason why i did the mistake was because i mixed up wordpress.com with wordpress.org

    @adaams90,

    I understand you made a mistake. We all do. There’s just nothing else I can do to help you. I’m sorry.

    Have a great day!

  • @adaams90, you may still be in luck, WordPress.com does not immediately release domains and they have an arrangement with their registrar where at times it’s possible to get the domain back.

    I’m tagging this thread for Staff attention, they’ll be able to look it up and tell you if it can be restored. Keep your fingers crossed and wait for their reply! :)

  • Hi there adams90,

    I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore adamsolberg.com to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back. If I am successful, I can send you a manual payment request form for you to repurchase the domain.

    I will let you know once I hear back from the registrar.

    Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

    Thanks but I don’t want to have the domain on wordpress.com, thats why I cancelled…

  • Hi there,

    The best bet of retrieving the domain is for us to get it back from our registrar and have you point the domain over to whoever you’re using as your host.

    After 60 days, you can transfer the domain over to your host as well. However, in the meantime, the most important thing to do is secure the domain, and I can try to do that for you.

    If you want to take the risk of having the domain released to the public so that you can retrieve it, let me know. But again, there is no guarantee that you will be able to.

    If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

    Thanks!
