stupid page won’t delete!

  • Unknown's avatar

I added a verification page for Google webmaster tools, it said to put the page no there so that they could verify it was my site.

They wanted just a simple html file off the root directory, so I figured I would just try naming a page with the name of the file and see if it worked.

google48badf649cfa9e09.html is the name of the page/file and it is stuck on one of the tabs as a page, even though I already deleted the page through the manager. Why is it still stuck there and how do I get it down?

    Here is the URL: http://grandcanyonplans.com

    Thanks for the help,

    Tim

Try searching the forums for Google webmaster; someone’s already posted how to do a workaround that works fine, if I recall correctly.

I know the sidebars are cached, but I don’t think tabs are. I would give it maybe another half-hour and see if it goes away.

Meantime, unless you’re a VIP blog, you should review the terms of service: they preclude ads like you’ve got there. Blogs get deleted for that kind of thing. If ads are an integral part of your blog, you’ll probably want to get the software from wordpress.org and find your own host, because unless you join the (Very Expensive) VIP program, you wont’ be allowed to run them here.

Hmm, it’s been a couple of hours or so since I deleted it, but I’ll give it a while longer like you suggested. I’ve also cleared my history and cookies and everything, not sure if that was necessary or not.

Thanks for the heads up about the ads, I guess it’s time to go in search of a host.

Well if I were you I wouldn’t contact support until I’d taken the ads down. They won’t be back until Monday anyway.

Clearing cookies and all is normally good practice, but since I’ve never been to the site before and i saw the tab, it isn’t that. Clicking on it just took me back to the main page, FYI. When you go in to Manage Pages, you don’t see it at all? If you do see it, maybe try editing it and reposting it and then deleting it. No reason that should work, but it’s the kind of glitchy thing that just might, anyway.

Well, I exported it to an XML file. I’ll hunt down a good hosting company and put it up on there. Then I imagine I’ll be able to find the file where it is and just take it out manually.

It doesn’t show up at all in the page manager. It did when I first created it which I expected, then I deleted it and it’s not visible in there anymore, but still stays on the homepage. I then tried recreating it with the exact same name and deleting it again wondering if it was just a glitch. It didn’t create a second tab, but neither did it take down the first when I re-deleted it. Frustrating!

I’ll probably just find a hosting company I suppose and take it out my self. Or maybe like you said, take down the ads and see if WordPress can fix it, then I’ll export it and host it elsewhere.

    Thanks for the help.

You’re welcome. If you’re hosting it elsewhere, it should be easy to go into the code and rip it out.

By the way, work around is to create another page and then delete it. Both pages should then disappear. Staff is aware oif the issue although I guess it hasn’t been resolved yet.
