Stupid question…where do you put the code?
-
I got started with one of the templates. How do you put widgets like a Contact Form? I have the code that I cut and paste but where do you put it? When I’m viewing the page on my dashboard there’s no HTML.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
If your blog is hosted on WordPress.COM, form goes on a Page or Post
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/
If your blog is self hosted you should ask about Plug-in’s here: http://wordpress.org/
-
If you have contact form code from an outside source, it probably contains code that is not allowed here due to security concerns such as javascript or an iframe.
WordPress had a contact form short code that can be used in posts or pages (sorry, not in widgets).

Make sure and put the code into the page in the HTML tab rather than the visual tab. It works more consistently that way. Also, type it in, do not copy and paste as the code in the support document has special stuff in it that will mess things up.

my blog is on wordpress.com
I’ve got the code [contact-form]
BUT, exactly where do you put it on the page? I tried to just cut and paste it in the blog but it just came up as [contact-form] in the text box. Am I supposed to be in some different mode when I put html into the site?
-
You cannot copy and paste it. You must type it onto the static page in the HTML edior mode.
-
How do I get to the static page in the HTML editor mode? Is it located somewhere in my dashboard?
-
1. Create static page > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
2. Click to switch form Visual editor to HTML editor http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/#html-editor
3. Type [contact-form]
4. Click “Publish” -
O.k. I see how to turn off the visual editor. Thank you.
BUT, everything still looks the same. There’s no place to put code to make the page look different.
Anyway, never mind…I’ve been working on this one tiny thing for days–getting a contact form on my blog–and it’s beyond my abilities. I’ve got to do an easier blog program or something. I’ve used SiteSolutions for Yahoo and PageBuilder and Publisher–they were easy. WordPress is really difficult. -
There’s no place to put code to make the page look different.
It’s a blank page. All you do is Type [contact-form] and click Publish. Then view the page.
-
It’s not blank. I have a blog with words on it. So I put the code in the text box and clicked update and it just looks like the same blog as before.
Maybe I chose the wrong template or something…there’s no way to change what is on the page except by posting more text in the blog posts.
This is way beyond my abilities… -
I gave you instruction for creating a brand new static page for your blog which will be blank just as any new page is blank until we actually type something onto it. In this case all you do is
1. Create a static page > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
2. Click to switch form Visual editor to HTML editor in that page http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/#html-editor
3. Type [contact-form]
4. Click “Publish” -
